Ok , so how many guys have been scammed with this so called new neck size and cpap machine B.S. when you go in for your DOT physical ??? have heard that it is NOT a federal or state law , so WHY is Holland having our neck size checked , and WHY do we have pay for the sleep test and machine ??? the Union needs to step up to the plate and make Holland-yellow pig pay for this B.S. scam !!! really if it's not the law why do we have to do it ??

Are you sure it's Holland doing it and it's not at the Doctors discretion?
 
It IS a DOT rule. Its the obesity rule. If a doctor EVER asks how are you sleeping, you always say "like a baby"
Ok , thanks for the info , with a shortage of driver's now this new rule could take a few more out of driving too ?

I believe it went into effect about four years ago. The doctors are now figuring out that it is a cash cow for them. They do a BMI body weight to height ratio....then they put a tape measure to work. 1) Tell them you get restful sleep. 2) Don't wear a shirt that makes your head look like a bowling ball sitting on your shoulders. 3) Act like a manager and lie, lie and lie some more.!
 
BMI!!! Body mass index. To determine if person may have sleep apnea. 1 of my friends here at the pig had it, and our insurance paid for it. And no driver shortage Wong!!! Pay and benefit shortage!!!
Yes you are CORRECT on pay & benefit's and vacation time too , but still think there is a driver's shortage too ?? and the big Question is how do these 400 lbs OTR chubby ones past it ???

How do companies attract people wether ltl or truckload to a job that starts you out at 25 percent less pay regardless of experience, no health ins for at least 3 months, and in some cases not much depending on how much you work in the first year, 401's that have very few company match, work hours that turn your life upside down, mileage rates that truckload carriers call competitive,yeah, competitive with who? Pensions like our mess, and now competing with more and more foreign drivers and some u.s. Citizens who can't read, speak , or want to understand English, but sure can read a GPS and get their pictures on TB for doing something really screwed up!!! No trucking company I know of will ever question wether a new hire has any common sense or not. They just pay them less.

:438: where have you been? Only thing the Union has done, is take our money via dues. Other than that they stand by and watch us get ***** while the CEO got a 9 million $$ raise and the CFO got a 4 million $$ raise in 2015. "It was to bring them up to industry standard" while all we got was a $750 check. Don't hold your breath if you're waiting on the Union to do something for its member's!!
 
Here's my story. Been tested twice in last 10 years. both times negative for OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) Last year doc said I made it by 1/10th of a % with my neck size. This year, same doc walked in, first thing out of her mouth was "do you have sleep apnea?" Told her "no I sleep great" Asked her why, since the rule hasn't been finalized, she said " I can pull your card for any reason I want" she asked the nurse why I hadn't been measured Nurse said "He said he doesn't have it" He's obese he has sleep apnea". she measured me, I was .5% over the bmi. but i made the neck measurement by.3234273744cm (random numbers to make a point) So she said If I furnished copies of my sleep studies, she would do some research and consider giving me my card. Long story short, I got my card the day before my old one expired. But wait there's more! another chunky driver at our barn, went to the same clinic, different doc, doc asked him if he had his tonsils and adnoids out."Yup when I was a kid," Oh you don't need the test" So go figure. Every doc has their own criteria. and before I left, she told me I probably don't sleep good and I should "invest" in a sleep test annually just to make sure.
Now when this all started, i went to the BA and asked him the unions position. He said"why should the fund pay for this? this is hollands problem."
his suggestion was to pay for the test and file a grievance and they'd see if they could get it paid for. I know i'm going to get a lot of pipe for this from the too ffin bad for you jack" crowd, and i did hear of one driver grieving it and winning but that was from a breakroom lawyer. so I did go ahead and use my insurance to get tested. Eventually the medical will get all of us for different reasons, and since we can't get disability anymore. I guess we'll bend over and take it.
 
In my opinion, this is designed to exacerbate the driver shortage, thereby making it easier to pass amnesty legislation. This is why Corporations lobby Congress. Once amnesty is passed, you have a ready pool of new drivers who will happily work for half the pay and benefits. They also have no clue about Unions and paying dues. If you combine this with ever increasing "Right to Work", it will serve dual purposes of breaking Unions, and lowering wages. This of course equals increased profits for executives and shareholders.

A friend of mine got caught in this Cpap mess. He made the mistake of saying that he didn't always sleep well. Huge mistake. Now he's having a heck of a time getting clearance from a doctor to discontinue the Cpap use. I think that the entire thing is a scam, but that's just my opinion. He's line haul, and doesn't sleep well during the day,(like most other people), but that doesn't mean that he has sleep apnia.
NEVER admit to the doctors that you don't always sleep well. Tell them that you sleep like a baby.

We have a guy having trouble getting certified for admitting he snores.
 
I typically tell the doctor that when people just leave me alone, I sleep fine.
