XPO | XPO's plan after aquiring Conway.

I don't know, what I read said specifically ltl line haul operation...

Oh they will improve the cost of line haul. Adjust the lanes to make them right. Their forecasting and analytics are significantly superior to what we run on now.

Drivers wonder if they will end the practice of big terminals feeding the little ones. ( nearby terminals poaching runs )

But between the amount of freight he is talking and the distance from A to B. As next day goes. It ain't changing much. And if the next day ain't changing much, line haul ain't changing much. The only reason it's worth the cost of operating like this is because of the price paid for next day service.

Anyone else get a letter from XPO wanting to buy your Conned-Way stock? We did today.
If this is on another thread, sorry I missed it.

The only thing that would concern me is the line about the intermodal use to improve line haul efficiency. I know they can't put it all on the rail but I wouldn't want any more going to subservice (ie not hauled in a set by a company employee) than already does.
as i sat in the front row at the joplin meeting he told us about the difficulties with intermodal as the railroad is just too slow some things can go that way but we are more important (pallet /ltl or truckload) as most loads are time sensitive

oh yea he refers you ltl as pallet as that's what they call it in europe

One of the big ways that XPO Logistics has said they will save money is with IT. Keeping things in-house , and supposedly just doing things better.

My question is - How many of you have the new handhelds? Did your service center have the rollout of the new handhelds pushed back? What impact if any , will XPO's IT push have on Con-way's technology? ( handhelds )

We saw the new handhelds, and ordered the holster of our choice. They are window based, should be no problem using XPO's software.

Con-way doesn't own any technology. XPO will bring us into the current century.

I watched one of XPO's infomercials, on you tube the other day, and the pitch guy said that they have some kind of IT that was called ' proprietary dispatch',or something similar to that . in other words they have a utility patent on their dispatch software that nobody else can use, ( unless licensed by XPO),to move freight cheaper and more efficiently than anybody else doing it the old school way. they designed a special route for a client that cut out many, many miles for them. Wow these guys are good at what they do. i only hope they bring that same level of expertise to us when they take us over.

So how does this sound good for us ? These people see XPO buying Con-way as easy money for FedEx !!!
Its just there opinion. I think that they think that Fred Ex will gain market share from customers that we lose because of our merger. I think that we are going to see a massive increase in freight volume from customers that XPO has and it won't make any difference. We can't really compete with Fred Ex anyway. They are almost as big us, OD, and YRC put together. They are a giant purple monster.

That would be great. But , have there been anymore huge shipments arranged by XPO Logistics since the last one that happened ?

Not big single shipments. But more steady shipments. Places that used to send one or two now sending four or five.

at my barn one of our p&d guys came in saying that a regular customer gave him some extra freight routed by XPO. Nice !!! Furthermore, according to a wall street article on another thread , Mr. Jacobs wants to keep our premium priced service intact and add an economy priced service that more customers can afford. more business, apparently, will be heading our way.
