Yellow | A Brother's CSPF Letter

Oh yes. Republican George Miller- California and Republican Johm Kline put the bill in the Omnibis bill. President Obama signed it.Yes the same Barack Obama the Teamsters gave millions to help him get elected. Looks like that bite you square on the gluteus maximus. He has a nack for signing bills late, way after midnight.

Now, don't leave out the Millions we also gave to those Congress Critters to look out for us too...they introduced and passed the bill without even reading it and what it would do to us....they needed to get that spending bill pushed through so they could get home for Christmas.....KK

A meaningless vote to be sure.

To be correct, it was the Treasury Dept that had them corrrect the bill so that we could have a vote, BUT, put in the part that allows the Trustees of a distressed fund to override a NO vote with the approval of the U.S. Treasury Department....Miller and Kline's bill did not have us a vote to begin with, and the US Treasury would not approve it without a vote, and a fallback clause for the Fund's trustees......KK

If you really believe we have a vote on this I have many tickets to sell to Disneyworld in Rocky Top Tenn. ( oh yea, there isn't one). So we vote ( wink, wink) and then the Treasury Dept. overrides it. No politician in Washington is working for their constituents. That was our parents politicians that did that.
Actually, i'd say the politicians are fairly representing by staying out of it and making the fund be responsible. I just wish they hadnt bailed out Too Big to Fail, or forced the inflated unsustainable pension payouts in the 1990s that caused this to begin with...

You are probably right about the Treasury Dept making corrections to the bill but a vote was included in the original Kline Miller amendment of 2014. I remember watching the only hearing on the amendment back in December on Cspan. Miller told the House Rules Committee that he fought for the retiree's right to have a vote.

  • Plan trustees must allow all participants to vote on cuts before they are implemented. However, this right is largely illusory. First, a majority of all workers and retirees in a plan – not just a majority of the ones who vote – is required to block cuts. Thus, a vote to block cuts fails even if 100% of those voting oppose the cuts, if only 49% of participants actually vote. Moreover, ballots can be distributed by e-mail, which means that retirees who don’t use the Internet might not vote.
  • Even if all participants vote against cuts, the Treasury Department, in consultation with the Department of Labor and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC, the federal pension insurance program) can override the vote and uphold the trustees’ decision to make cuts if it concludes that the plan’s insolvency would increase the PBGC’s projected liabilities by $1 billion or more.3

These cuts must be voted on by us , right ? If so , one would be stupid to vote yes , these are the biggest cuts allowed , far smaller cuts would suffice and cause much less suffering . Besides , cuts at this level are not much better than PBGC levels , better to let the fund go broke in 2026 and collect full pensions in the mean time .
Dam right thats exactly what I said , let it go to 2026 at full amount . They gutted mine $1333 which was exactly 50% so I would be better off voting NO and draw full amount for ten years then $1100 under PBGC !! No brainer there. They will destroy this union with this cut , what kind of idiot would vote for Teamster affiliation with the way they are letting their retirees be screwed , I know I wouldn't .

Also I think they should be required to post how many bigshots are drawing multiple pensions and what their cuts will be. I know this is a stupid request because I asked for the same thing when at a meeting at our local they came down and told us they were doing away with the 25 and out pension ,which I was 3 month away from drawing. They told me to sit down and shut up that I was out of line, maybe I didn;t phrase my question exactly right when I ask how many of you SOBs are drawing multiple pensions.

Thanks brothers from all us drivers who will be retiring in five or ten years from now. It gives me that same warm and fuzzy feeling I have had in the past when senior drivers, who have lots of money, work seven days a week on a hog board and darn near starve the younger fella's out of a job.

The government took control of the fund in 1982 then they forced higher payouts when times were good. Now that it went to poo-poo under their oversight they want to cut our nuts off! Make the fund be responsible for what when the government has been running CSPF since 1982. How about the government being responsible! You know they didn't give everyone involved immunity because they did such a swell job!

Two different things. I'm talking the IRS when they forced all pensions to raise payouts or cut funding. You can't give a pension to someone who paid in 25 years and expect to pay them for 40 years, without running out of money... I worked with quite a few that took 30 year Pensions at ages 48-50. It's unsustainable.

Been on the bottom done that and vowed when I reached the top I would never be a hog and I wasn't took cc days so younger men could work and get their days in. Gave my 15% willingly and tried to help everyone .The younger guys at our barn gave away the ship just to get over on us old hands ,most were a bunch of suckasses who could care less about work rules ,overloads and off route roads , would do anything for their bosses and I mean anything. I always put $20 or $50 bucks in a card for a retiring brother but when I retired the TM throwed my card in the windoow and said heres your card and walked off. NOT ONE PENNY boy do I feel stupid for all those cc days I took to help them.Only one driver at our barn recognized my retiremet and took my wife and I out for supper and we had a great time and are still best of friends.
