Recently started using two '13's for the first time. Both get "nuisance" check engine messages (per company & Ryder mechanics). Is this typical? Just get a little queasy two hours from anywhere at 3 am. Thanks.

If everything is working correctly you shouldn't have check engine lights coming on. I've never seen a engine fix it self but if the shop is saying to run it. Thats what I would do. Unless you can find a Saia shop that will take the time to diagnose the problem.

With that being said I am driving a 2012 int. That had a check engine light on for 3 months was running horribly and constantly trying to regen. One night the check engine light went out and it started running 100% better.

So I guess I am no help to you... Lol

Yep. They say run it, I run it. One of em Saia mechanic put on laptop as I watched. Ryder had one for the weekend and brought back. And my 08 is continually in a some state of regen. Just getting opinions. Thanks for yours.

If something goes wrong, you get the blame for not putting the truck in the shop. If it was me, I wouldn't risk it. I would let local management know that you were concerned and was going to put the truck into the shop, if you go somewhere where there is a Saia shop. If no shop, I'd park it and get something else to drive until the locals get it fixed or get it checked out. If they get it checked out and say that it is ok but the light is still on, I'd still park it and let them explain why they are trying to force you to drive a truck with a check engine light on.

Sounds like typical Saia. Line haul brings a bum truck to a terminal with no shop, then just leaves it and grabs the next one. Classy.

Write it up on the Vnomics Post Trip that way there is paper trail on the problem....then someone will have to pencil whip it to put it back in service. When you break down and call DLS shop you can asked who fixed the problem. :479:

Just cover your ass to the best of your ability. And use whatever available technology that you have access to.

Maybe I need to clarify my post. If you are concerned with the check engine light, then you park it at your home terminal, don't go into another terminal and hijack a truck. That can get you in real trouble. There, all better.

I understood what you were trying to say. No clarification needed. You have to excuse big buck because hunting season is quickly approaching. We all are professional drivers and our CDL is our livelihood. Protect it accordingly. As long as we do our proper pre/post trip and stay within company policy then we have nothing to worry about. Pretty simple stuff.

Actually...hunting season is going strong already. I'm just recalling at my former terminal that we would constantly, like multiple times a week, have line haul bring in "troubled" tractors and then swap them for what was a good city truck, many times mine. And since the company didn't believe in renting a tractor, more than once a city person had to sit home because we were left a tractor short. Just didn't make sense to me on a lot of levels

And your story doesn't make sense on lots of levels but I wont go into it. I'm not saying it has never happened but it is rare. Remember men. Big Buck left and sued the company and has an axe to grind. Spinning and fabricating stories is just part of the grinding. BTW ... http://www.hunttexas.com/hunting/season-dates

That ship has sailed mates. What's in the past will stay there. My issue with the company aside, you can't deny the point I am making. It happened more than once, me sitting home due to being short a tractor. Conversely, not one time did I hear of linehaul sitting home for the same reason. It is what it is. Just sayin

I guess we will just have to take your word for it. I do know its not common practiced throughout the system.

I'm line haul truck broke down at HST yard they was short on truck and I had a run to Louisiana I called central and said no trucks central told me 2 go inside and see city dispatch and tell him 2 pull a city driver out of a truck central said they know how it works but luckily 1 came out of shop so apparently central gone make sure line haul gone roll regardless. I was glad shop got 1 ready I really didn't want 2 take a city driver truck he trying 2 make money like me but would had 2 do as I was told but everything worked out

Like I said just cover your ass. Put it on Central and just do what your told.

Those volvos are pretty looking trucks, but they are electrical nighmares.

I run one one weekends and the system will issue phantom codes.. Besides the electrical issues it is a nice running truck

True. But I would take a Volvo over an International any day. Just a personal choice I suppose.
