SAIA | Layoffs!!

Is that line and city drivers laid off system wide?
Don't think its just drivers Rider. Every dept will probably feel this. I think it might be another trimming the fat layoff. The last one they had was people that didnt like coming to work , had a high point total , not producing , riding the clock , things like that.

This is really sad. I feel horrible for those that got laid off. If this was similar to the last one, it came out of nowhere without warning. These are people with homes, families, bills...really quite sad. Saia should not be proud today, as this is happening with some level of frequency now. Prayers to the affected. Tough time of year to find a new job, but best of luck.

All OK hope it's at a minimal but I know it's getting that time of year when things get slow

Not saying that is the reason for the layoff, but from the ones i heard were laid off , they fell into one or more of the categories i previously stated. I am sure Saia is not" proud "to be doing this .

Just giving you gentleman a heads up, as someone who is in the know, several layoffs have happened at break bulk FON with more to come. Interestingly enough, it was all gentlemen who had a target on their back for a while now. God speed to those guys, they all treated me with respect.

While a lot of the people laid off did fit in the high point category, there were a bunch of full time dock workers laid off just for being full time... From what iv heard anyway. Regardless, a sad day for all affected.

3 drivers got let go today at ORG and what's crazy bill Kennedy was here couple weeks ago having meetings asking what was going on cuz they were calling HR a lot and the 3 drivers that spoke up got let go today... Sucks

Interesting that in FON there are several people bouncing back and forth between 11 and 12 points that survived the cut but people under 7 got cut and had more seniority.

I'm not familiar with the specifics of California law, but I wouldn't think they would risk the potential litigation involved with letting people go for "complaining" or being "bad apples." Doesn't feel right. Must've been something else. Also, seniority means absolutely nothing, unless there is a union present.

California is an at will state

Even then, I'm sure they didn't get fired for complaining. I'm sure "poor performance" was the excuse-- I mean reason

And generally, companies like Saia like to cover their butt so that things like layoffs don't draw any more attention than necessary by ending up in court. I find this situation reprehensible and inexcusable. Saia should be embarrassed that this happened AGAIN. Drivers aren't responsible for freight volumes, which is the justification they will use for the layoff.

So if there isn't enough work they should just give paychecks out of the kindness of there hearts? I find people like yourself reprehensible and inexcusable....in my opinion.

It's not about it being slow ORG is actually hiring

The Midwest seems to be down on bill counts and weight. I know my terminal has no extra freight. And laid off 1 part time dock worker and a P/D driver.

It's not just Saia though. Friend of mine at O.D. has only been working 4 nights a week. And a Conway dock worker was down to 30 hours a week and he said he normally does 50-55 hours.

Not every employee that Saia hires is a great worker. I'm guessing they are using the slow down In freight to cull the herd. Which in my opinion has to happen from time to time.
