XPO | Big changes coming for linehaul

Whats the deal with so many non con-way employees posting in the con-way area? I'm genuinely curious the reason for it. Did you guys use to work here or want to work here or are just generally curious of other LTL carriers?

On the other side, why isn't there more con-way employees on boards like these? There are thousands of us but yet only like 10 posters or so.

Speaking for myself, I am an outsider who never worked for Con-way. However, we all do more or less the same thing, and I am curious about what the XPO acquisition means for not only your operation, but how it might affect the industry as a whole. Plus, I run into your P&D drivers all day, and I actually care what happens to them. You've got some good people there.

Also, some of us are addicted to Truckingboards for some reason and lurk around most of the other companies' boards. It is a good way to see what is going on in the LTL business as a whole, what drivers in other companies are bitching about, and remind me what I have to be grateful for when I don't have to deal with some of those same issues. As an outsider I try not to post like a maniac, but I will occasionally participate respectfully.

I have the same intentions. I'm really curious whats going to happen. I guess in a week and a couple days we'll see what unfolds!

As was stated here, I wonder if we'll hear something on the 2nd or if it will be on the 5th since thats when he is doing another investor conference call.

We aren't the smartest , or the best looking , and we don't have the most money , we're the cool kids. The people you love to hate - but hard not to love! :fat:

Yeah baby.

You can thank upper mgmt for that bs. Hiring nothing but yes-men nowadays for fos's, gotta make those #'s. Not to mention all the dsr's and dock workers who fall for the fear mongering when it comes to how much freight you dock vs how much freight you load. God forbid we dock a little freight in order to load a trlr right

I brought up an idea at an outbound dock meeting to split the dock crew up into shuttlers and loaders. Put your less proficient drivers on the shuttle part, stripping city trailers and baying up freight behind the door(s) said freight is loading at. You can do it with fewer people since you can't have all the freight on the dock, and it provides a steady stream of freight for loaders at their assigned doors, say 3-4 load doors per man. You'll end up with tighter loads in less time with fewer man hours to accomplish the job. Supervisors didn't want to hear anything about it, wouldn't try it to see if it worked, said we progressive load and always have always will. What a joke, lean, respect for every individual and listening to the voice of the guy doing the work, yeah right. I told them never to ask my opinion or for help on anything ever again.

I thought every driver at one point or another worked for conway. I know I did 13 years ago. Started with 10 other drivers all of whom left within a year. I realized why they wait until almost year to send you to ann arbor for orientation.

It will either change the industry for everyone. Competing so broadly on such a massive scale. And a lot of smaller companies will be swallowed up and/or run out of business.

Or it will implode on itself. Become a massive bullseye for the entire rest of the industry to attack. Specialty carriers will pop up to take advantage of specific market shares. The big carriers will continue to offer better service or lower claims. They will be reduced to a Swift equivalent. And we will all be long gone.

Or he carries out his master plan. In five years he makes this XPO turn $29 billion in revenue with over $1.5 billion in EBITDA. The company is just to tempting. DHL buys it for a ridiculous figure. And we are all back to square one. If we even managed to survive long enough to see it.

It manages to effect everyone that drives a truck somehow. And so, people are indeed interested.

The audience is significantly larger than the participants.

That is correct! I will read most everything and be in the know before the SCM ever says anything. Many I have figured out who they are by being around when things were orange and brown!! That part does not matter much just listening / reading what is happening in the big network of service center. What goes around will eventually come around!

Pretty well said, but you forgot one scenario; over a few short years, we become #1, the benchmark, because we have upper mgmt who values the backbone of the company. If you take care of your drivers, and consider their good advice, then your drivers will take care of you.

The way it's been here for the last several years, they should have just put our emp ID# on our uniforms instead of our name.
