SAIA | Layoffs!!

I'm not buying it. Sorry.
You can choose to deny that driver's situation from 1000 miles away, that's fine. I'll admit, the DAL terminal/region is the envy of CGO region drivers, with us being expected to run over weight and over hours and all... So it may sound foreign to you.. But, what you cant deny is that the company is circumventing its own disciplinary action procedure.

Ain't that the truth. This company in the north and south is like two separate companies entirely. It's disorganized and ridiculous up here. But as long as they leave me alone and just let me do my job, I don't have much to complain about.

Remember a few years back when Atlanta got like 2 inches of snow and a little ice? Shut down the whole terminal. But they made us folks in the north run like that everyday. So your statement about things being run different based on geography is spot on.

That's just the nature of the beast between areas of the country, though. Down south they don't have any plows or salter equipment to deal with snow and ice.

Then on the opposite side of the spectrum, we get people from Colorado and Wyoming over here in the midwest that can't believe we close down schools after ONLY a foot of snow... lol

Don't think its just drivers Rider. Every dept will probably feel this. I think it might be another trimming the fat layoff. The last one they had was people that didnt like coming to work , had a high point total , not producing , riding the clock , things like that.

Yrcw will hire them...

Not trying to drum up votes here guys, but was reading your thread because I heard today on my route from a Saia driver that they had some layoffs. Is that true what I read in the first page that they layoff hand picked people, and do not do it by seniority? Just asking. Thanks.

Yes

Yes that is true...are lay offs never go by senority...they go buy poor job performance

Well let's say there's a 60 year old fellow that has been thère for the better part of his life peddling freight. Then at the same barn you have a 30 year old fellow who has been there just a few years but for obvious reasons moves a little faster and can in most cases out perform the older fellow. Lets say they both put in a good effort every day. Is it really the right thing to do in a case such as this to lay off by performance?

According to the RAT who is 60, he only get 30 - 35 hrs a week.

well I am 62 years old and been in LTL trucking since I was 19, and I will work rings around a 30 year old any day because they don't have the work ethics
that the old truckers have. most grew up with their mama's wiping their ass and daddy taking them to school ( and still can't count), they back to a dock and a lift unloads the truck. They go to a grocery whse and have to break off 2 layers and cry like a baby, I would love to see them take a Gerber Baby food load in with 4000 cs on the floor to unload. we worked hard for what we got and we still know how to work. not all layoffs where job performance, some attendance and some others. if anybody is going to talk up the union on this forum it is going to be ME, so take your ass back to yours!

From what I have seen so far the guys that have been let go were guys that played games such as......they put in for a day off and the boss says "I can't let you take that day because I already have to many guys off" so he waits 2 hours before his start time and calls in sick.

Or the guy that takes 1hr getting in and out of a customer everyday because the shipping clerk smells pretty...and every other driver is in and out in 30 min.

Or the guy that calls in and says his trailer is full he's headed to the barn and cant make his last 2 pick ups....and when they open his trailer he has 2 feet between each skid and would of been able to pick up more freight if he loaded his trailer correctly.

There are people in this world that get the job done....and people that spend more time trying to get out of work then working.

Plenty of guys in there 60s working at Saia that may not walk across the parking lot as quick as they used to but they do there job and know they don't have to worry about being let go.

There's also plenty of guys in there 20s that run across the parking, take off in the truck like a bat out of hell just to stop at the wide spot and take a 45 min nap. These guys should be worried about keeping there jobs regardless of age.
