So now I guess we're going w/ Freightliner , and also going back to Volvo again . What's up w/ the back and forth on this? Don't get me wrong, I'd take my Volvo back any day over this pile of junk KW 680 , and I've never sat in a Freightliner Cascadia before, but it seems as though this place has no idea of which direction they wanna go in regards to one or two truck manufacturers . Either way , I say bring on the Volvo's !!!!!
 
The Volvos aren't likely to make a big return. FedEx was one of many carriers Volvo made a lot of false promises to. There was a lawsuit against Volvo that was ultimately settled out of court.

If you can get one, try a Cascadia. I love mine. Smooth ride, comfy seats, and I love the Detroit engine.

I've driven a Mack Pinnacle at another job, which is a really nice truck.

I was a Volvo guy but I've grown to like my (older) T-680, love the tranny/take off with the Volvo's but the bells and whistles associated with the VORAD will drive a man crazy!! Whoever approved those annoying bells and whistles has obviously NEVER driven a truck with them before!!
I've only driven a Freightshaker twice so I really can't comment for the pros/cons.

BTW....How bout them Royals??!!

We were told that they would always keep every option available with regards to the trucks, I'm guessing they'll continue to go with whoever is willing to offer the best deals with the company specs....with the exception of International, pretty sure they've cut ties with those road commodes.
 
I felt the same way when I was in the city too....well, back in my city days most trucks didn't have a/c, so to get one that did in the middle of the summer was nice.

Things are a little different on the road side.

No not really last time I took a road run I took my tractor it's an older model kw.
 
Given the demand for new tractors caused by the new smog laws, they're probably just buying from whoever can deliver on a schedule acceptable to the company.
 
The only issue I have with these brand new KW's is the total lack of power when going up the slightest incline. Sometimes you loose 12 mph going up the slightest hill if you're 30,000 or more. Reminds me of the old red racers. Can we PLEASE fix this issue????
 
I was the opposite. Id drive whatever on the road. In the city, Id fight for a volvo. Visibility out of a KW in the city is just an accident waiting to happen.
Things were a little different in the city back in my day, our only choices were the mid-class 7 speed Internationals or a smurf with a super 10....a/c with am/fm radio or 2/60 air while singing to yourself.
 
HD 4089. 1979 Ford CL9000 with a Detroit 8V92, with a hair dryer (early turbo). 315 so called horsepower and 850 foot pounds of torque in a two stroke motor that belched black smoke. Pull the grapevine southbound at 15 mph with 80,000# gvw. Walk alongside and throw buckets of water at the radiator grill so the truck wouldn't overheat. Fun times....God the old days sucked.

You forgot the two gallons of oil underneath it after sitting overnight. Loved those detroits GMC Astro cabover 6 speed tranny
 
The new Kenworths ride nice and most have some balls to them, but that big pointy nose for a front end and limited stiff turning radius make backing up more of a challenge in some of these places. I also liked the old Volvo much better, short front end, BIG windows to look out of and bigger mirrors to see with. Steering was almost loose compared to Kenworths. But either of those are so much better than the old Internationals, good grief...
