Yellow | XPO closes purchase of con-way layoffs begin

http://www.conwaylayoff.com/ , Gee maybe YRCW should go after these driver's too ???:6799:
They will go somewhere with a 401K with some sort of match, unless they are desperate! We just had two guys switch from city to road board, I guess if you can't find them anywhere else you might as well shuffle your guys around and make it appear there are new guys.

Do we have any old CF guys on here? I was just wondering if they are grinning a little bit at this whole thing. If it gets ugly over there I hope some of them post some nice comments on here about their concern for those fella's at Conway!

I was former C.F and I don't blame the Conway drivers one bit.I'm sure there were a few who snickered about the loss of our jobs but they are just :::shit::: on our shoes.
The others know Conway would have done the same thing to them if it benefited the corporate management.
It would have been bitter sweet to see them vote in the union...They had a chance and I hope they all realize xpo would cut them just like they did management if it would save them a dime.
Maybe the next round of votes , they will vote for THEIR best interests.

I guess some guys are just a lot nicer than me, back a number of years ago, a paper plant I was working for threw all the Teamster Drivers out and brought in non union drivers to replace us. Well for several years after that not only did my middle finger go up every time I drove by the plant, but I had to talk myself into not running the new non union drivers off the road every time I saw one....like I say some guys are a lot nicer than me!

I remember going to a customer just after CF closed. A CF driver was there delivering with an old ratted out GMC, they were still cleaning out the system. Two CCX drivers were there doing trailer swaps with new Sterlings I will never forget how they were snickering at this poor guy who knew he had only days left. From that point on I never had an ounce of love for that company.
I worked for CEX the only unionized division of Conway. When we closed CF was told not to touch us if we applied.

When we got thrown out of the paper plant a few of the guys applied at the non union company taking over, my buddy was one of them and he caught a glimpse of a do not hire list while interviewing. He mentioned he saw my name on it, I was not shocked, along with the steward and anybody that was strong union.

That would have made for an interesting labor charge.

Refusing to hire because of union inclinations. And that 'do not hire' list is as illegal as it gets, regardless of the reasons behind it.

Show me where "refusing to hire because of union inclinations" is illegal. Union activity by an employee is protected, these are not employees. And also show where a "do not hire" list is "as illegal as it gets". There are very few protected classes where legal action can be taken for refusal to hire - age, religion, etc., and not much else.

I'll pass on proving it to you. There is no benefit for me doing so and I view it as a waste of my time.

You improperly feel as though I owe you explanations, I don't, carry on.

You owe me nothing. But you have shown everyone on here that you make statements that are factually incorrect and then when you're called out, you behave like a petulant child. As you say, carry on.

The truck shops & truck dealers in this town had an agreement they would not hire others employees. I call that the "Plantation Agreement". It goes back to old days when once you worked on a plantation that owner owned you for life. Many small town businesses still practice that "Chamber of Commerce" mentality. I heard of incident recently where a business owner hired a laid off worker from a customer. That customer threatened to stop conducting business with him & told his friends in the construction business to also cut him off for stealing "His" worker.
The Chamber of Commerce fights labor unions but it is in reality a union for the wealthy.

In some states it is illegal to black ball an x employee and in some states you can bring charges against a former employer for defamation of chariter

In some states it is illegal to black ball a former employee and in some states an employer can be sued for defamation of character for black balling a former employee by that employee. Personally I think it's a good law to protect the employee from a former boss that just plain don't like you has a personal grudge etc .
