ABF | Uniform Grievance

I see a lot of wasted money going out these days because of grievances. We at 065 try to let the company know that there is a situation that could be a cause for a grievance.
065 paid out more grievance pay under Mat Godfrey in a short period of time than any other TM we ever had. He is now in Cincinnati where I am sure he will cost abf some money there also.

It is not like we look for trouble it is just that some TM's don't care and they just keep costing the company money. So far the new guy at 065 Pete has been careful as to how things are handled here. YOUR BROTHER ALWAYS!
.

Thanks for the clarification. You notice in the new abf company catalog they are offering uniforms again? I'm hoping they go back to the way we use to do it..
The whole reason they gave out uniforms for free in the old program, was to get around the provisions of Art.12. They gave them out to whom they felt like, disregarded seniority, didn't care where they were made, and they certainly didn't have the Teamster emblem on them. I think that since we got...."used"......to their old uniform program, they thought they could run the contractual program as they liked. The old uniform program wasn't mandatory, this one is, ..so it must be run contractually. You notice that none of the uniforms in the catalogue have the Teamster emblem on them?

ABF generally doesn't like to lose grievances and will fairly quickly 'promote' a manager to a location where that won't happen.

At the end of the day,.......you GOT to file the grievance. We have a few guys who grumble,......sometimes about actual grievable items,......yet when you recommend they file the grievance, they say: "What's the use?".........So, you file it on their behalf,.....and the guy wants his name removed from the grievance,......So,.......You file it on behalf of the good of the membership,.....And,....you get a favorable resolution,.......and the employee who benefitted struts around like.........HE took the company to the mat, as it were.........And, of course,.....there was no "Thanks" involved...........BUT!,....if the decision would've gone against the employee,............Well, then......"The Union's rotten,....they're all crooks,.....company does what it likes.." ....(..Deep Sigh of Disgust....).....But you still got to keep filing those grievances.........you may lose a few battles,......but so did Eisenhower,...and he eventually won the war......

Im at 067 and have met Matt. He is keeping a low profile, I mean he hardly ever comes out of the office. He has spent a lot of money on the terminal so far. They are in the process of repaving the yard right now and have replaced all the old dock lights and yard lights that have been out for years.Says the breakroom will be remolded soon and a few other things. Cant find any fault in him so far but we will wait and see!

Did the same repairs at 065. Repairing things that were already in the budget for your terminal does nothing for our business. Tell me when he grows your 067 terminal. All the repairs you spoke of was already slated to be done. And you will see he hides on his office all the time

We had a grievance hearing on a separate issue last week, and it came out that the decision on the Point of Order was ruled in the Union's favor. Why all the secrecy? If it would've been in the company's favor, they would've trumpeted it all over the place. Now all we're waiting for is a docket date back at ERJAC. Hopefully before December. Glacial speed.........
Anyword yet? We are all sick of these uniforms!!

Yes there is no emblem, but I preferred wearing my own local union t-shirts or my own clothes all together... I never wore the old uniforms anyway.. Well maybe 2 or 3 tines a month..

Brother,....I've been dressing myself for oh,......say,...about 60 years or so,...and while I can't say that every clothing choice I make is a fashion statement,.....I can certainly choose well, when it comes to weather, comfort, safety,...and my health and well-being. I really don't need my employer "borrowing" my body to be a walking billboard to promote his business. I still wear my Union jacket,......my Made in America, by Union Labor jacket...(...easy enough for the Union to find a Union Vendor with clothing made in America..... Maybe ABF should've asked the Union for recommendations....).....IF the weather requires it, ....and as the weather gets worse, I will wear what's appropriate,........and I don't want to hear "mandatory". My health trumps your "mandatory".....Pardon me for using the word "Trump"........

Did you get the message I sent you?

At least Fed-X gives their street people some kind of a insulated winter coat.

Yes they do, and their dock people, ....employees also,....... can go to Hades to get warm. The non-Union companies started this "customer-facing" crap. I still can't find that word in the contract. The Union contract, which was written to force companies to be fair to ALL their employees,....... says just that: " employees ".

Anyword on grievances involving uniforms? I here there was some heard in December.
Nothing yet, Brother. However, everyone is back off vacation and I got to call down the Hall for a grievance anyway, so I'll ask them again if they see that it's docketed.

I'm beginning to think the strategy is to drag their feet until April,........change vendors to comply with the contract, then vote down the grievance. April is about a year with Cintas , isn't it?
