Hey, I've been with the company about 3 yrs. Small terminal. Newish tm. We've been having issues with seniority. Brand new guys are allowed to come in up to an hour and a half earlier than guys with as much as 10 yrs seniority. They are running volume loads, spotting trlrs, home movers etc. To make matters worse now we have a shortage of tractors due to breakdowns. New guys are on the road while guys with routes have to wait for linehaul to get back. Tm says seniority only counts for vacation and pay. Doesn't seem right

When I was in the city we were split up into volume and peddle. Volume guys were brought in according to seniority to do exactly what you said, run volumes, home moves, etc and if you bid a route you came in whatever time that route left out and that's what you did every day.

New guys are cheaper, at 3 years you have reached the top of the pay scale. December is the worst month for the OR, they will use the cheaper paid especially if they have less yard time than you or get things done faster than you.

To my knowledge vacation is first come first served. Seniority is only used for the bidding process. You may be doing your job so well they don't want to mess up the flow.

Not a December thing, been going on for months. Hurts more now since a rash of breakdowns have left us short on tractors and linehaul gets back later and later. Once you prove you can do a certain route well, that's pretty much where u stay. Top guys not affected, only the middle ones.

It is normal for Sefl, not sure about OD. Not only does seniority not count for start times, we don't even bid routes. It's all up to the TM. Whatever makes the company the most money. One more reason I want out of freight.

I guess it's up to the TM......our senior guys get 10-15 more hours per week than bottom men. If they didn't High Point would get a call.

I feel your pain bud. Depending how long you have been in the ltl business this is pretty normal. I did hear a new one the other day a new driver was telling people that if we ever had to layoff the guys with a little bit of seniority would go before the guys that went through the driving program because he said that O.D. payed for them. Lol. I told him we haven't lasted off in a long time and assured him his way of thinking probably isn't the way things would go down. Well enough rambling have a good day guys.

could not have said it better, seniority here is nothing more than where your name is on the list in the city. linehaul does bid route according to senority

When your non union you will always have these problems. Especially work rules changing like the weather and violations of seniority

Or you have a change in the corp office putting a man in the big chair that used to work for a union company ....... just saying......

Does the union require you to fly that socialist flag? I've heard if you join a union you pretty much give up your voice politically and vote the way the union tells you...

well at least you say what you believe, for that you get respect, even if I disagree politically.
