Wens morning going home I had the misfortune of hearing one of our own "Space man" on the Steve Summers trucking radio show in 700 am in my car. I don't know why I let this stuff bother me but it does. He's been with the company more than ten years and I had met him and I thought he was reasonably smart. But the show was having a discussion on how hard it is to work within the 14 hour rule and I guess they let him on daily for fun, anyway it went like this he identified himself as working at YRC and at the Carlisle terminal and:
"It's hard to work with this 14 hour rule, like when you go to Kearny NJ (179 miles) 3 and a half hours over and 3 and a half back and you want to do an Allentown on the second half (104 miles each way) and the company only gives you a half hour break, That's right, he said the company only give you a half hour.
I must be getting old you use to go to Kearny and back (4 hours each way) and be done for the day, but I guess that's not enough, but to go on public radio, I was embarrassed to think I even worked for the same company.
Somebody help me out, did they change the FMCSR or do they make them drink the Koo-aid to where you have to drive 11 hours everyday and work 14 hours.

Twisty, I was reminiscing with a buddy about back when we started the other day. Chicago had a satellite in Libertyville, IL. it paid 63 miles each way. 1.5 hours driving on the paycard. Invariably, this would be dispatched between 16:00 and 17:00, rush hour in Chicago. When you got back from there they always wanted you to turn Madison, WI. which paid 167 miles 3.5 driving hours on the paycard. I can tell you right now if I drove 126 miles in stop and go, rush hour traffic there was NO WAY I was doing that Madison. All but 80 miles of that double turn was in Illinois with a 55 MPH speed limit. 3.5 minimum for me to turn Libertyville. Rockford, IL (119 paid miles) here I come! Needless to say I wasn't one of their HEROS.

Unfortunately with the paycuts many are maximizing their hours to keep up their lifestyles. Along with the 15% cut, we have been getting little or no raises the past 7 years and our purchasing power has probably been reduced an additional 15% over this period due to inflation.

If you dont work 60 in a week as a p and d or dock worker than you cant make $900 plus net a week. If you want to work for 650 or less than do your 40 and see how that works for you. I have high standards and I want to work 70 but they wont let me work more than 60. If your not making a g a week than your wasting your time.

DOT requires a 30 minute break BEFORE your 8th hour.....BUT YOUR UNION CONTRACT GIVES YOU AN HOUR!.....It's idiots like him on a radio show that kills it for everybody!....KK

Youuur wastin time

179 x 2=358 miles 135-111 turn.

104 x 2=208 miles 135-158 turn.

358+208=566 miles.
Turning Jersey and then halfway back to Allentown & Home? On I-78? No matter when you start you are gonna hit traffic somewhere somehow!
Uh why? why not turn 111 and run something short? Rail,153, Warehouses in Chambersburg Pa?
What am I missing?
We used to run Stroudsburg Pa to New Haven Ct 159 miles each way (164 via the Tappan Zee bridge) and be done.

"We have met the enemy; and he is us."

(Trip?)

Lehigh valley, it's Carlisle to Kearny to Carlisle then the second trip. The reason is the driver may be on a bid to Kearny or a open bid. The deal is when he gets back to the window after going to Kearny he has 4 hours driving instead of 3. You have to give them 4 hours to get something like an Allentown or Baltimore. Most guys would give then 3 hours driving left an they would be told to go home.

What's the running time on the pay card 135-111? Depending on the time of dispatch the Driver could hit traffic in Harrisburg, Allentown, (At Rt.100, Summit Lawn & Hellertown) And in Jersey just about anywhere east of I-287. And on the second part of the run 135-158 no matter what he's gonna hit traffic on Rt 22 because of either rush hour or the construction between MacAuther Rd, Over the Lehigh river bridge to the Rt 512 exit for the Terminal.
Could a Driver "Luck Out" and miss all this traffic? Yes. Once in a while. But remember this is the world famous Northeast! Nothing is set in stone! It's a whole different ball game over here as opposed to running to Knoxville or Chatty, Or Indy!

We would do a double Rochester and they wanted to do 3 of them ..We would do a Syracuse 308 miles and they wanted a Rochester and the return....And they would be the biggest crybabies when the board got cut....They didn't understand they were cutting their own pay in the long run...As my dad used to say, "don't spoil em, save some work for tomorrow"
