Never going to happen. Most people are too stupid to realize that the smaller populated state's votes would become irrelevant if we switched to popular vote. And if/when the ignorant are educated on the impact of switching they wouldn't support it. Shows how dumb this country has become.

Actually, take a look at who signed the compact.

This would be a boon to Republicans if it went through.

(And the smaller populated states are already irrelevant. No one is fighting for Montana's 3 votes.)

Nope. The electoral college makes it all relevant and thats the way it will stay forever. By state, this country is dominant red and we aren't going to allow the uninformed, unpatriotic, and unassimilated big cities make the decisions for our nation by themselves.

What have you been smoking? The states that signed it are Democrat states.

Hey CCX, since there are more states that have signed on the the Article 5, Convention of the States petition, (in an effort to give the powers to each individual state) than there are states that want to do away with the electoral college, do you support that movement too?

Do I have to explain this to you?

The states that signed currently give 100% of their electoral votes to Democrats.

    Period.

Under this proposal, should a Republican win the popular vote, NY, Cal, etc. would go red.

Do I have to explain this to you? A REPUBLICAN WILL NEVER WIN THE POLULAR VOTE IN THOSE LIBERAL CESSPOOLS.

Are you that dense? It's about the Nationwide Popular Vote.

Or are you saying a Republican could never win that?

    I didn't say I support anything.

I don't necessarily care for the winner take all model, where 50.1% is enough to take 100% of the electoral votes.

Ya, that's exactly why we were not founded as a Democracy.
    :duh:

Two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner is no way to run a country.

The states created the Federal Government...they gave up some state powers to the Feds BUT the states retained power to themselves...knowing it would weaken state’s power they devised a system where no matter how extreme the federal government would get the states still retained power to reel them in...

Who cares about Montana or Wyoming with their 3 electors...this is the beauty of the electoral college...string together enough small elector states you then have a powerful block of states to counter the radical coastal populations...

Let me walk you through this.

Currently, New York awards 100% of their electoral votes to the candidate which garners the most votes in NY.

    Following so far?

Under the proposal, NY would award their electoral votes to whoever won the Nationwide Popular Vote, whether Republican, Democrat, or Independent.

The question was predicated upon the idea that I supported this movement, which I hadn't affirmed.

Anyway, you would be interested in knowing if I supported some other movement? I don't have an answer, since I'm not well versed on their viewpoints.

I don't shoot my mouth off.

How do you like your vote being irrelevant?

    NYC decides for you.

The founders set up the electoral college to keep the final word on political leaders out of the hands of the commoner.
They the educated elite founders believed the great mass of the unwashed, uneducated would fall prey to voting for populists.
Obviously the college has not been doing its real job of keeping out the charlatans from office.
So we might as well get rid of them
