Has anybody heard how cheap con-way is going to be this year? Well let me tell you, 1st only 7 drivers for the whole state, now I know some states do this already but others let you fill the classes from each SVC. 2nd, no practice, no equiment rental, possiably no mileage and no paid time to attend. Now lets look at this, 100 million dollar profit and we can't afford the tdc anymore. That's just a sad,sad state of affairs. And last it looks like the way they are going to choose who goes is the one with the most state wins picks 1st then so on down the line till they run out of spots, if they still don't have it filled then the driver who has been to state the most times untill they fill out the spots.
IF CON-WAY CAN'T AFFORD TO DO THIS THE RIGHT WAY THEN WHY NOT JUST CANCEDL IT FOR THIS YEAR AND SEE IF NEXT YEAR IS BETTER.
This is line haul gossip.
There are NINE classes of competition.
Member companies of a certain stature are "strongly encouraged" to fully participate and support this activity to the nth degree. Failure to comply to this "encouragement" is met with a predetermined disdain and an unspoken threat of censure.
Damn right Con-Way is going to compete (in all nine classes) as expected. They will do no less this year than they have done in the past...perhaps even more with the current publicized profits.
As mentioned there are nine classes of competition...only seven drivers per state is patently false.
There are certain participating states that do LIMIT the numbers of drivers a company may have in a given class. As an example (and I am trying to construct this from memory) the state of Indiana allows each company just three participants in each class...covering the possible eventuality of one company winning first, second, and third place in one category. I may have the details wrong...but there is a limitation.
Other participating states have no such restrictions.
So the above post is little more than LH BS...some peckerwood looking to stir up discontent. Usually started by some malcontent upset the company is spending monies on the project as opposed to giving them a new truck or a larger raise.
We go throught this insanity every year...and next year will be no different.
Everyone should do the TDC at least once...it is a blast.
Too bad it is sponsored by the ATA. The only shortcoming of the entire effort.
