This for one thing and I can't see how the gubment could provide for million dollar bonuses for the Wall Street bankers who bankrupted the banking system and provide financial aid to the rest of the world while ignoring our problems here in the trenches.

While not trying to be political here,.....every politician,....of a certain persuasion,.......rails against government bailouts of privately owned companies and pensions,.....while turning a blind eye to the fact that,....almost to a man,.....they voted to bail out the privately-owned banks and investment firms affected by the 2008 financial meltdown,.............CAUSED by the VERY PEOPLE they bailed out!

Since all defined-benefit pension plans are backed by government-owned Pension Benefit Guarantee Insurance,......the government has a vested interest,............same as their "interest" in bank deposits backed by Federal Deposit Insurance,.....which was the "argument" used by legislators to justify their government bailout of banks,...........to make sure defined-pension funds survive.

There was only one Senator that had proposed a bill to provide pension relief to funds similarly affected by the meltdown, and the banker's irresponsible behavior,.........and that was Senator Bob Casey (D) of Pennsylvania. His bill languishes in committee due to lack of sponsors. S. 3157 "Create Jobs And Save Benefits Act."

Senator Casey is up for re-election this year. If he goes out,....there goes the last voice for pension relief in the Senate. He introduced his bill in 2010. 5 other Senators co-sponsored this bill, but no one else has come up with anything similar. Bill needs at least 21 other co-sponsors to come out of committee.

Sen. Casey is the only Senator I know of , to say on the floor of the Senate: "People who perform physical labor should, by the very nature of the phyiscality of that work,.....be able to retire by age 55."
Everyone else seems to want to push Social Security back to age 70.........

To answer your original ?.OD does get Upack business from ABF if they don't service area or unable to supply customer's needs. It is transferred to OD thru Upack. This has been going on since OD started.I have seen a lot of them that are done thru UPack.OD doesn't use cubes. They del 28 ft tr,ramp, hand truck, straps for customer to load.Again this has been going on for years and I have showed up at customer's house or apartment and they were not expecting a trailer at there front door. Lol

I thought we were a "nationwide" carrier? Are you telling me that we pick and choose the points we want to serve?

I know that feeling...it's a mixture of emotions...while you agree with it you can't bring yourself to like what has happened.

it's obvious that we don't have the manpower to cover these extra upaks while we still collect revenue by contracting it out. smart business

Well.......you're still at XPO, so I don't know about the "we" part....but....

The manpower is there....and if ABF has a problem hiring people,......that's their own creation.

So the smart business move is to cut driver's wages so they price themselves out of the labor market,......and then subcontract out existing work to lower revenue income......

Doesn't look smart to me,......but maybe it looks different from way over there at XPO.

sorry to burst your bubble, but I am a Abf driver . Our last contract has made it hard to recruit drivers and you know that. Working the first 2 years without a vacation is almost laughable, but hey we voted for it. So yes, upaks are seasonal and yes hiring is a joke under this contract so farm it out and collect the money

Na, if they can pay another carrier less to move U Packs than they have to pay us they have no incentive to hire the manpower.

This was a feeling out process. They didn't have the manpower because it's so hard to hire new drivers under this shitty contract, so they just tested the waters. Saw what the union would catch or agree to. And apparently the union is letting them get away with murder.

Once you lose the work, you never get it back.

They've already tested the waters, they moved Timekeeper revenues out of ABF Freight and into Panther's pockets, grievance was filed and the union did nothing. The companies all have their green light from Hoffa to do as they wish as long as his dues receipts keep coming in. Honestly, I am more disenfranchised by Hoffa screwing us day in and day out than I am the company doing so. We expect the company to do it and we pay the union to prevent it. Guys, we're getting it from both sides, wake up.

Alright Rollin62,........we're both adults,....and I'll take your word that you're currently an ABF driver.

And I'll agree with you that working for two years is ....laughable,....especially in light of the current labor market.

Looking forward to constructive and helpful comments from you.
