A dust storm is blamed for causing two seperate but simultaneous accidents on Interstate 10 late Wednesday afternoon.
It all happened 28 miles east of Willcox, near Bowie, in Cochise County.
The biggest collision involved five semi-tractor-trailer trucks in the westbound lanes.
The crash caused an explosion that killed two people.
"Eighteen wheels, when they burn, when they give way, they're going to explode," said Arizona Department of Public Safety Sergeant Brian Preston, who was one of the first to respond to the accident.
