All that pumpkin suit will do for you in our yard is make it easier to identify the body. No excuses for ANY thing like this to happen in a ODFL yard.

True, but in all the years here things never change no matter what you tell management. Forklifts on the dock drive reckless, hostlers drive reckless and drivers go much faster than the 10 mph limit while hugging corners going the opposite flow of traffic like they're in Europe. Hate to sound so negative, but at these big terminals you need your head on a swivel because we have a lot employees who just don't realize how fragile life is until something bad happens.

Not going to point out any specific terminals, but the switchers often go way over the speed limit. They should be governed to the speed limit in my opinion. If I am going the 10 mph limit and get passed like I'm standing still something is askew. It takes a fatality to focus on this?

Seems to me this accident/death is being pushed under the table has alway's.To me this should have been a example for OD to look at&learn from.I have spoke till I'm done.No-one want's to listen&address the problem's around here.In my opinion they just think I'm just starting crap.Well,we will see..Nothing will change till Corp.address's the problem's&start's handling on a Corp level.

And in my opinion they (The high ups in corp) will not pay attention unless either a lot of employees at a terminal complain about a problem or the terminal's O. R. is bad. Everybody enjoy the monthly meeting this month touting our RECORD O.R. just saying

I mentioned this to my TM and he didn't even know about it. You're right though, they all know what our RECORD OR is! I talked to my old TM on LinkedIn and he said the tm, sales reps, safety and field services guys get bonuses based on the OR that can be over $10k every 3 months. Maybe if it was tied to safety they would pay more attention. Just saying.

ABF employee here, line nor sleeper teams also don't wear them in the yard when out of the truck. Sad day. We will bring this up especially since we have long nights now for sure. Some line drivers walk the whole yard after parking tractor and trailers. Instead of going on the dock near the inbound lanes!

We don't even get anything to read unless we ask what was in the "meeting". I don't sign anything unless I know what it is I'm signing,

You know you are signing for the monthly Safety meeting.
A nice surprise visit by Safety would be nice.

Unless you're having a driving school at your barn I don't think you would get a visit from safety. There was a time when you would see the safety guy once or twice a year, but it looks like the focus has shifted to making new drivers , not being safe.

Nothing has changed as far a speeding switchers go as of Oct. 2017. Be careful out there friends. Also,
I was in KC the other day at 1 a.m. and not one switcher or driver had headlights on only hazards. I mentioned it to management and got a shrug...

In another week it'll be the 2nd year anniversary of this driver's death and nothing has changed.

Agree 100% on traffic flow in yards. Since when do we drive on the left side? That and driving around with four ways on. We're all doing the same thing in the yard. Habit of mine to turn em on to back into a door. Doesn't do any good if everyone has them on all the time.

Exactly, I have gone to 3 people about our yard boy. Speed, cutting across the inbound lanes, dragging the landing gear. Nada. Still the same. The sad thing is he's going to screw up and possibly some innocent person is going to get hurt. It don't have to happen. It seems like the only feet held to the fire are the driver's. The safety, hazmat and any other rule applies to everyone. Another problem is communication. None. It's sad when a person has a medical issue and you find out 3 days later, on the road, by a former employee.

And when that happens again, they'll just call the meat wagon again and tell everyone to quit looking and get out the gate with your trailers. Business as usual. Can't stop the green machine unfortunately. I agree with you on all of that. Gets worse the bigger the place.

I'm going to say and this is just my opinion, but when trucks have their headlights on in the yard it makes it harder to see.

Agreed if sitting still. But I do find it beneficial to see the headlights moving so you know if something is coming at you. I almost plowed into a yard mule in STL because he was cutting through the breakdown line and I almost didn't see him because his headlights were off.
