As I said from the very beginning, Why should Ups spend more money on the "O" employees. They don't have to. The "O" employee union talk scare tactics won't work with Ups. They are used to working with the teamsters. Ups is also in a win win situation. Save millions not paying "O' employees what they deserve. Hey, we are used to it. Its been this way for ever at "O" Or work with a contract which Ups has been used to for ever. So for any of you that are still waiting for Ups to just hand over a silver platter to keep the union out. (fix all the issues) FORGET ABOUT IT!!!!!

We also need verification of job duties.

This morning we were told a # of things in referance to working the dock.

The sheet we read from corporate Stated on the header of the stripper manifest is to be fillled out by the supervisor prior to the people stripping the trailer getting the sorter.

When he spoke to us he kept saying it was our duty to fill out the header of this sheet. when I brought this contridiction to his attention, he said he will find an awnser for us.
Well he went to our dispatcher, asked her, and she said it is the strippers duty, and this is backed up by the TM, who is on vacation this week.

All of this occured in a matter of 30 minutes. Notyhing but another line of crap, flavor of the week.

There has never been any uniformity in this company, or clarity for that matter .

Now we have a new TM, Backed up by our old TM ,who is now our lead dispatcher, both worked for "O" for a length of 15 years + using the old "do not make it harder on us technics" But enjoy passing thier responsibility on us.

I enjoy people who pass the buck to cover thier ***.

My new jobclass is "Freight Redundancy Specialist".

This Person will have the ability
to tolerate mentally challenged dispatchers
who excell in the art of ignorance redundancy,
and can withstand driving 18 wheelers at
top end speeds in circles.

This is why I have always said, Drivers do not belong on the dock. That is what we have dock workers for. But at any rate I would imagine the strippers name will be on the manifest so they can blame you, I mean come to you if there is a problem with the freight on that trailer.

There are many road drivers who like to work the dock for extra money.......Who are you guys to say they can't.
Do you just post to watch your post numbers go up. I never said that drivers (can't) work the dock! What I said was my opinion is that drivers do not belong on the dock. That is what we have dock workers for. Just like dock workers dont belong in a truck making p&d. And P&d doe's not belong on line haul during the day.And line haul does not belong on p&d. All Just my opinion.

I did not say I woud'nt. Let's see first.
Yup, Thats the whole Idea of the campaign. A good strong contract will answer many questions that Upsf employees might have. Then we can decide with the facts.

Whatever. My opinion is let a man work if he wants to....If these guys don't like it there are plenty of Just driving or Just Dock jobs somewhere else. Are you jealous of my post #s.Funny thing is you can go to other parts of this site to boost up your #s...How do you think most of these posters got their post #s up Quickly after the crash?

Pay the Linehaul driver what he's worth and he won't have to work the patio to make ends meet.

Pay the dockworker what he's worth with OT after eight(8) and he won't have to sacrafice his weekend to take a line haul extra.

Pay the P&D guy what he worth with OT after eight(8) and he won't have to work the patio after a hard day in the city. Let him go home and enjoy his evening and rest up for another hard day tomorrow. we all know city p&d is the hardest job in freight by far.

:fruit: :fruit: :fruit: Just let the linehaul driver make the pick-up,load the outbound trailer, take the frt to the destination and deliver, then just lay the dock worker off. Or maybe the salesman or the girls in the office need a little pocket change so put them on the dock to help if they have a little spare time.

So you don't have a problem when a line haul driver is told to stay home because there is not enough freight? And then you find out that a P&D driver ran line haul during the day.
Or when a dock worker or P&D driver is told to stay home? Only to find out someone out of their classification did the work.
Or is it that you personally have not had to deal with this problem yet so you don't care?

One more thing. I could care less about post numbers! I could care less how fedx is doing. What I do care about and only about is being treated fairly about all the issues that has been brought up for years.

I disagree

I don't think drivers should be on the dock for the simple reason that they are taking away work from dockworkers. That is our work. I know some places have combo workers, and that's one thing. But where I work, the duties are seperate and I don't think one should be taking work from the other. Division of labor is what it's all about.

You are absolutely right drgonzo. Division of labor is something that is addressed in every union contract I know of.

Ok, Lets look a little in to the possable future. Ups says that they are looking for another large company to buy. Lets say they buy Conway. Conway and Upsf dovetails together. You are forced into the city. Under current policy, You would go to the bottom of P&D and you would watch new full time P&D drivers work before you. If you have 10-20 years and they have 1 year, They will have more p&d seniority than you. This can happen now with out a dove tail situation. But far more likely if another company was to dove tail in. KEEP AN OPEN MIND!
