No , I didn't know everything about freight on my first day and because of that I didn't make full rate.

I know we have to make it more attractive to new hires, but from a human view, after all the concessions we've took in the last ten years it's just difficult to watch some( not all) of these new people just walk right in and get scale.

Guess we just disagree on this one ,brother.

Wow, you haven't been around very long have you. There was a time when everyone - new hires and casuals alike - were paid scale for every day worked, first day or ten thousandth day. We Teamsters threw new hires and casuals under the bus a while back when we agreed to pay progression in the contract. Just another mistake we made a long time ago. And sadly your thinking is a perfect example of why that was a bad idea.

That's the part I don't get. Why should new hires suffer, because of concessions we have made?

Company chooses to increase pay, voluntarily, and there are complaints.

Precedents have been set going forward, that is a great thing, contractually!

They can change the two tier rate for new hires only, they can pay more but not less, we are the dummies that voted for this contract remember this in 2019, full wages, full pension, grow a set do it, this crap will go on forever unless we unite as brothers and sisters and say no.

With the last MOU's we were told " this is it ,the best we can do" but apparently there is more to be had... If your a new employee that is.

It's their company they can do what they want, all I'm saying is how about a little bone thrown to those who've stuck with this company through the crap storm.

I don't know about other places but by us the people fresh out of driving school are' tickled pink" to be making what they are and they know with their skills their not going to be hired by anyone else. But I guess due to parity and the fact they're a card carrying teamster they deserve everything their getting. But us old dogs should just shut up and be great full.

I would hope that some on here are not nieve to think in 2019 that wages will jump like 4 dollars an hour all at once...

There are many who still believe that there is some magic number in the sky that we "should" be getting rather than realizing the reality of what we are capable of getting from a company in the financial shape ours is in.

The whole picture remains unclear when you factor in where the competition is at with wages, and benefits, along with the pension issues....

We need at least $5 to $6 bucks hour raise across the board , to at least match Non-Union pay scale and a MATCHING 401-K that we control NOT Union or Hoffa or Nyhan !! as they did such a good job with the CSPF one ...................................................

I wish you the best of luck finding a place that will pay you what you "need". When you do find it please let the rest of us know about it so we can follow you there.

It we'll be interesting to see if ABF continues to pay the $ 350 a week towards the pension forever or at least the next five contract years.

I think in 2019,the union will have to divulge their plans on what direction funds like CSPF, will go moving forward. By then YRC,and ABF should have their operations mapped out. I would say at the least, it will be very interesting....Like a chess game. Who flinches first?

Well Trip with your way of thinking ,then years ago our Teamster's Brother's should have never fought to get to the good wage we once had , Hell let's have YRCW drop the pay back down to Minimum wage , then all the YRCW Cheerleader's will be happy !!!!!!!!!!!

Seems like at one time they did pay casuals more because they didn't have insurance.

When I was hired in 86 I was making 12 bucks an hour. Turned regular in 87 and went to 14 an hour. If my memory serves me well.
    But I'm stickin to it.

Hey Bart. Good to see you back posting.

Full disclosure, when I left R&L I was hired on by YRC and New Penn separately but together under 1 umbrella , just come in take the piss test and sign these papers. To me that sounded weird because I went through a lot more with other local companies. After reading all these forums and talking to current employees I turned it down for a non-union shop. I have the utmost respect for all u guys and all the b.s. you deal with and totally understand not wanting to give up anything (and you shouldn't ) but I have no idea how anyone with half a brain would want to sign on as a new employee with this YRC corp. There are literally hundreds of companies out there that offer better packages to experienced guys leaving companies and fresh out of school then this outfit. Not trying to offend, just a realist point of view

Thats what some of my old Roadway Abq. friends have done. They have retired from YRC and returned as casuals, or they have left YRC and hired on at ABF, a breakbulk in Albuquerque, and retired with a full pension.
