Does anyone have first hand experience with bumping to new or better power units in the P+D operation? Can we grieve successfully if a new tractor arrives and the company assigns it to a junior man? I have the company agreeing to this in writing, but it's from 2008.

In my National Master Freight Agreement and Virginia Supplemental Agreement, Article 53, Section 5, end of 2nd paragraph start reading.

As a Senior man I have been passed over many times. But...as long as the A/C is cold, I am happy...lol!

    Hope this helps!

The new hires are probably telling them that they'll work there but they won't drive the old junk.

Paid hourly = Junk is better
Paid mileage = New is better
    Simple...

Thx but, Southern Supplement has 53 on another subject; what's the topic for Virginia on 53?

For Virginia, my Union book says..."The assignment of equipment, routes or work shall not be subject to seniority or bid, except that men bidding on driving jobs will be allowed to elect whether or not they will drive a trailer or a straight truck."

There is no seniority on the assignment of power unit.

At my barn, as 'new' equipment arrives, it is offered by seniority. If #1 chooses, he falls to the bottom. If he passes the unit he maintains his position and may pass or choose the next arrival. So on down the list until exhausted. Exception occurs when changing from dock to P&D or viceversa. Bumping in is acceptable, abandoning is available to next in line.

This came about due to #2 abusing every new piece of equipment that arrived. Trailers are connected to routes and replaced by mechanical necessity, not by seniority.

In my barn, all "new" equipment is bid by seniority. No bumping of equipment. Once its bid it's yours. Some men have driven the same tractor for 10 years.
