Central Transport | Bunch of sales and operations folks quit today

I am not really sure what you are asking. But, this is my take on what is happening. The account managers that left yesterday, must have had enough. They were growing increasingly unable to convince their customers to use Vitran and therefore they decided to go to companies they could sell for with confidence. Think about it, Vitran, has to be a tough sell. We all pull trailers that read "Vitran", "Pjax", "Milan", and, I am sure somewhere, "Quast". The trailers tend to be non-water resistant, not only on the top, but the bottom, as well. Not to mention, any time there is any weather related issue, it takes us weeks, if not, months, to recover. This is not a reflection of CK, its a fact, and has been a problem for a long time. I think I posted some time ago that the issues with Vitran go back to Gaetz's lack of vision and reluctance to re-invest money into the truck line during "profitable" years. We are all paying for it now.

Don't forget OVERLAND and Serria West trailers or how ever you spell that one.

Well, before Vitran changed presidents and business went from 16,000 bills a day to a **** poor
12,000 that they are at now, GRR was doing 900. Times have slowed, sure. But they are a major contender.
Mark my words, they will be down 200+ bills by end of 1st qtr.

I just hope the reduction in bills is the junky worthless freight and not the good stuff, but i know i am wrong, we have lost some very important accounts

Let's hold off men, like I said the official numbers are not out yet...Lets just wait and see...Not much longer.to wait...Lots concern themselves with things that never come to pass...What a waste of time.

Even if the company "goes under" this does not mean you are out of a job. Corp restructure in bankruptcy, down size, reset wages to the beginning and move on. Or there is a fire sale. Or the company bumps along the bottom for years while CK grinds out the change. Or CK gets the axe and someone else comes in and fixes it. ORRRR any other possible combo of an infinite amount of possibilities. No one knows what will happen. Not even Canada. Let us say Vitran U.S. gets shuttered; who can be sure even CK would know it was for sure coming. From our perspective we could argue that Canada will close it down soon or given the type of investments V Canada is involved in 22 milllion is a drop in the bucket...that there is a brave new type of logistics on the horizon and if you are patient you can be a part of it. The real question here is not in the black or the white of the topic-it is in the gray. A senior driver maxed on wages and benefits that has allowed Vitran to ruin his driving record and is a few year away from retiring anyway has no reason to leave or even worry about the question. A newer guy with no raises and clean record with another 20-30 years of driving has no business here. Those in the middle of that should also look to greener pastures.

Who says $22 million is a lot of money to Vitran anyway? Maybe it is, maybe it isn't-I for one do not know how deep Vitrans pockets are. I like the drama as much as the next guy, but these are not answerable questions. This is capitalism-A.K.A. xxxx everyone with the biggest xxxx you can find. Enjoy the ride ... so to speak.

So that info gives you all knowledge of the situation. You know all the finances of all the corp that vitran ceo is involved in. Point is this stuff is much larger than vitran. Think outside the small box.

I could entertain the thought of Vitran closing its doors as an ex employee for the rest of my life, but it would be insane for me to do so as a current employee. I agree that things could be better, but worst would be 4000 employees out of a job, It bothers me when 1 employee gets sent home due to lack of work. I don't care if the stocks are going for $50 or .50, I will not receive a bonus or profit check , because all i am going to receive is my paycheck. I can tell you that in the years that I have worked at the V it has been profitable. My only advise would be to quit the V if you are not seeing profit.

While you bleeding heart socialist nibble your finger nails over 4000 unemployed us true Americans know cream rises to the top and those good hard working people will get jobs and the lazy ones will starve leaving us all better off. Creative destruction baby.

Anne has left for a 3PL at a director of sales. Greg and Pete went to Central Transport along with two other regional managers

i heard the majority of people went to c.t. and there's more to follow. i heard possibly another t.m. quitting this week. chasing greatness is changed to chasing our tail.
