All eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 just east of Cherry Glen Road in Vacaville are open following an earlier accident in which a big-rig driver was killed, the California Highway Patrol said today.

The unidentified, 20-year-old man was driving a tractor-trailer filled with plastic containers when he swerved onto the right shoulder at 6:45 a.m., CHP Officer Marvin Williford said. The big rig struck tree branches at the side of the freeway, veered back to the left, skidded across all four eastbound lanes, hit the center divide guard rail and overturned.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of the truck through the right-side door. Paramedics from the Vacaville Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene.

My mind may be going, but I thought the laws were changed to 21 for your CDL. Or is it most carriers require 21?
