DUBLIN - A 17-year-old San Francisco boy sustained serious leg and arm injuries this afternoon after his gas-powered scooter collided with a cement truck near the intersection of Doughty and Fall Creek Roads, near the Alameda-Contra Costa county line.

An Alameda County fire spokesman said the boy was riding with a 17-year-old friend from Dublin when, at 2:12 p.m., the San Francisco boy rode across Dougherty Road into the path of a moving northbound truck carrying cement. The boy was dragged about 140 feet by the truck.

The victim, alert and talking to firefighters while being pulled from under the truck, was taken by ambulance to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley for treatment. The boy was wearing a helmet.

The boys were riding the scooters northbound parallel to Dougherty Road when they decided to cross the street toward Fall Creek Road, Moon said. The truck driver, going the speed limit of 45 mph,, saw that one of the boys was trying to cross the street, Moon said. The driver, hoping to avoid the boy, hit the brakes; with the truck and the cement weighing some 64,000 pounds, the truck could not stop in time, Moon said.
