A Washington State truck driver, 45, was crushed to death in a Santa Fe Springs truck yard on Thursday night.

The victim -- whose name has not been released -- died instantly when the truck he was attending to at Warner Truck Yard rolled back and pinned him against another tractor-trailer at Warner Truck Yard. The accident happened right before 10 p.m. yesterday, according to a statement from the Whittier Police Department, which patrols Santa Fe Springs.

The man was part of a two-man trucking team, working with a rookie driver from Kentucky. The man was in the process of swapping semi trailers, the statement said.

As he checked to ensure his trailer was secured, the victim told his partner to release the brakes so he could examine the seals, it said. The partner complied, and the truck, having been up an incline, rolled back and crushed the victim.
