Reminder to all Brothers and Sisters in the Chicago Area Locals

Just because the contract expired you do not have to except a undesired and unjust contract, you will still work while negotiations and ratifications are proceeding.

705 , 710 , 179 Do Not except a contract that has any language in it that might reference Utility or PSE , this will only harm your future , $1.00 an hour does not make up for your loss of seniority. It is intended to benefit the company not the rank and file , as you have seen on other posts it has to much Gray areas in it where the company will be able to have free rain on how to implement it. It is intended to "help" the movement of next day and second day freight , I have this to say Holland has always been a leader in this type of operation without this type of program so how will it really help? it wont the decline of our business is directly related to poor management not poor labor.

We negotiate separately from the international for a reason , we believe in strong contracts that does not give back what has been so hard fought in the past.

Stand Tough Brothers this is a defining contract for the Future

As you have probably read on these threads and posts the rank and file are not to happy with the contract that was passed let us not go down this same road .

179 Brothers I would like to commend you for standing up to the pressure from your local to except a garbage agreement and showing them that you will not cave to that kind of pressure.

710 if you think that excepting a contract with Utility and Casual in it will be a benefit to you think again their will be less OT , your spotter bids can be cut , Little to no Saturday work , No More Full time Hires seniority board never grows , and the path to combo opened up this is one thing that all of us in Chicago still has over the international a dock man is a dock man - City Driver Drives has worked well why let this go away to increase by $1.00 that is not good enough in my opinion.
DO NOT SETTLE FOR A WITH DRAWL FROM ALL OF THE HARD FOUGHT GAINS OF THE PAST!!!!!! 710 your LOGO is the Bull Dog , don't act like a Poodle , Stand Tough !!!!!!!

Friendly Reminder

This is a reminder to all: Truck Drivers and Dock Personnel are skilled Tradesman , we should be compensated on the same par as other trades , Carpenters, Masons, Electricians, Teachers all make more money than we do all the while working less hours.

Teachers and office personnel across the country get more Vacation, more personal /sick days , and more holidays.
this was brought about by Union activism in the past the Teachers are not afraid to stand up and demand better contracts they expect to receive respect for the work they do , it is time for us to do the same remember this if you bought it we brought it.

710 agreed to UE/PSE and are voting on it.
Word has it they will cross our picket line and work.
Warning to local 705, a wildcat strike by our Union will get us all fired and it will be legal.
We have time, lets keep sending them back to the tables.
Don't let the powers that be, no matter what side of the table they sit on, put you out on the streets. <Read between the lines there

An all UPS Local 705 is desired, as JM angrily told us a few years back. The 800 plus NMFA jobs left in Chicago wouldn't be missed by the 705.
Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate or we may be the next Redstar-like situation.

The two major issues in 705
No Utility
and Territory 150 mile radius from Chicago post office.

As for a 710 dock/spoter doing the work of a city driver, how many of them actually have CDL's with any endorsements?
Will they be able to back into some of the stops that we do? Like the alley ways down town, or the stops were all the cars are in front of docks?

I am sorry but I think that a wild cat strike only applies if you are in a contract not when you are in negotiations.

The latest rumor and that is what it is is that the guys over here at yellow plan to negotiate separately , I do not believe that because Yellow, Roadway , and Holland are all the same company now we are YRCW.
The problem that is going on at negotiations is that the Representatives from the company don't want to recognize this , and state that they are negotiating as one entity.
That is what is holding up negotiations right now.

As to accepting a unfair unjust contract 179,671 was putting pressure on there men to accept one they voted it down.

710 if voted in you guys will loose all of the hard fought gains of the past, send it back and work for a better one you don't all ways need to accept the first proposal that come down you would not do that buying a house or car why would you do that with your future? You would be looking at more job's going to part timers , Utility men doing the job you do now , seniority board stagnate where you would not move up when men retire you only move backward , little to no O/T , no spotter bids.

This is how I interpret Utility I am probably wrong and need to be corrected but, they would like to run the company's of YRCW like CCX/Conway , you work on the dock at say Chicago terminal 2 hrs , then they give you a load to say Rockford you drive the hour or so to Rockford you get there you work the dock for say 5-6 hours maybe spot to get your return freight loaded , now they send you back to Chicago you drive again for an hour or so once you get back they hand you a peddle run ,all the while you have already worked 8-9 hrs but here is the kicker you have not driven 10 hrs so now you have to go and do the peddle run say it takes you 4- 5 hrs to do that were are you getting O/T on the city driving? on your dock work? or none of the above? that is one way that Conway gets around the overtime issue. But I guess the $1.00 dollar increase on strait time will make up for all that right.

Oh and lets not mention that once you go to Utility you loose all of your protection from your local in Grievances you will not have your normal steward any longer that goes to a separate comity and who is electing that comity?

To much Gray area guys and we all know what gray area means , it means the Company's will interpret and write into it what ever they want , I still don't understand why the international pushed for this type of thing and why the rank and file caved in , you could have worked for a better contract then the one that was accepted, all the while still working .

Loon you as well as all of us know that if there was a strike 710 would not cross they would get unemployment , no Union man in there right mind would cross a strike line that would get real ugly real quick!!!!!!

No one really wants a strike not the company and not the rank and file , all that is wanted is a fair contract and that can be fair to both party's it is time for YRCW to stop playing games. and that is what they are doing they did not even come to the table with any real proposals of their own they are using ours and highlighting what they agree and disagree with. remember they had 5 years to work on this and they did not. Now as for the Red star situation that will or won't happen no matter what we do if they want to do it they will.
That is one reason that it is so imperative to clarify who we are dealing with because if it is and it is YRCW then they would be obligated to incorporate employees if a closer happened , otherwise the lawsuits begin.
Just one mans opinion.
