Local 710 YRC Teamsters Vote No
October 15, 2009: In votes counted today, some 1,000 YRC dock workers again rejected the concession proposal, and by a larger margin than in August.

The rejection among dock workers was by a vote of 486-242. The janitors rejected it by 9-2, and the office workers passed their contract by a vote of 59-46. A number of concerned Local 710 Teamsters, from the office and dock, showed up to observe the count.

“We had a larger turnout, and a strong No vote,” said dock steward Joe Dutka. “Most of us feel we have given enough and at some point we need to hold our ground as Teamsters.”

The big rejection vote came despite heavy pressure from Local 710 Secretary-Treasurer Pat Flynn and threats from YRCW management to route freight elsewhere as punishment.

Management followed up on such a threat in Cleveland this week, where they laid off 20 of 64 mechanics after those Local 964 Teamsters again rejected the concessions.

Teamsters are hopeful that their clear demonstration of solidarity will push Flynn and the International Union to protect their jobs.

Nice to see that there are more Teamsters like LOCAL107 and LOCAL25 from New Penn who have had enough and told Hoffa and Zollar to stick it. Now the Question will be is our International going to back Chicago?? Or do we go to a best out of 5 with the voting...GOOD JOB CHICAGO and GOOD LUCK

How can you compare 107 to 710,you had 52 no votes to 50 yes votes.no solidarity at all.and local 25 had 7 more no votes then yes votes.

Doesn't matter if it 1 vote or 50 votes. Just like a baseball game win by 1 or 10 runs its a win. Or Nascar the first one to cross the finish line is the winner, the rest of the field are losers. So whats your point trucker????

My point is you come on here taking a cheap shot at the rest of the new penn locals.talking like 107 and 25 all stuck together and voted no,id rather be in a local where everybody sticks together, than be split like your 2 locals.
