Perdue workers cleaned up a cargo of live chickens Friday from a tractor-trailer that overturned at the U.S. 113 and U.S. 13 split in Dover, spilling the crated birds all over the highway.

The incident occurred about 5:07 a.m. when the tractor-trailer was headed south on U.S. 13, coming off a turn at the U.S. 113 split, Dover police Lt. Steve Getek said.

"He was going too fast for the slip," Getek said of the driver. "As the truck entered the turn, it began to yaw to the left, then roll to its right, causing the load to shift."

Getek said the vehicle overturned on its right side. Many of the crates opened, releasing the chickens on the highway and creating traffic problems for morning rush-hour drivers.
