Central Transport | Det to start training dockworkers as drivers

Safety has been out this week setting up the drivers course at the terminal today. 2 trainers to get 1.50 pay increase when they are training.

Hope they drive better than they load trailers. LOL

HR is having a job fair in so next week because they lost 5 drivers.

This does not sound like a company that is getting ready to start paying a wage attractive enough to draw experienced drivers. I know a lot of high paying companies like UPS promote dock workers to drivers. However, the difference is in the reason. UPS does it because they know those that get promoted understand the system they will work in and those promoted are hard workers. Vitran is doing it because they cannot even hire recent graduates of a truck driving school.

I sure hope we start getting traction soon...the rig is almost high-centered.
