Well Brothers not that I know any of the agreements in our up coming contract I just thought I would post a little information for you all to consider just in case.

In 1998 the NMFA was voted for and passed in this contract we were to be given a signing bonus the first year with no raise and then we were to get a 35 cent an hour raise for each of the remaining four years of the contract.

When we received the $750.00 bonus it had been Capitol Gaines taxed and we received about 400.00 after taxes.

If we had gotten a 35 cent raise the first year instead of a bonus this is what we would have made for that 35 cents an hour.

For a forty hour a week Teamster he would have made around $14,560.00 and counting.

A fifty hour a week Teamster would have made around $19,990.00 and counting.

A sixty hour a week Teamster would have made around $25,450.00 and counting.

So beware of a wolf in sheep's clothing. This could be a tactic to pass a contract it looks good but as you can see it could cost you 10's of thousands of dollars. YOUR BROTHER ALWAYS!

BIG, BIG NO to any type of sign on bonus! Like Muler said look at the math we will lose out big time....

Seeing how the leadership all around the country is telling everyone that they will like the tentative agreement means that the contract will probably be getting an overwhelming approval once again. And who knows... the leaders may think a signing bonus would be a good selling point like they did with the 1998 contract. But as Muler has pointed out... that's nothing but a wolf in sheep's clothing because it benefits the company and takes away from the Teamsters.

The company will always take a short term loss for a long term gain any day of the week. What the Teamsters need to be aware of this time around is that for the Teamsters... it will be once again... a short time gain for a long time loss! Just imagine... all those hired after 1998 didn't benefit one bit from that $750... just lost out beginning their very first day and every passing hour since.

So... don't be surprised to see something like... maybe a $1000 dollar signing bonus this time around. And please don't take this and start a rumor because it's just what I personally think might be a possibility since all the leaders are thinking we will all be liking it when it comes out.

Just sharing my thoughts... I could end up being dead wrong.

What leadership are you referrig to? I have heard nothing either way. I'm just asking because I'm getting tired of all the secrets the union is keeping from us. I expect it from the company; but I pay the union and I expect more for my money.

I know what you mean Homesick because I think it's safe to say that most of us are getting tired of all the secrets the union is keeping from us. I've heard from many ABF Teamsters around the country that are asking their BA's about it which in every case the replies were the same... "I can't tell you what's in it but you guys will like it". So... that is what leads me to believe they had strict instructions on what to say so they would all be in unison with their answers. After all... the leadership knows that there are many pugnacious Teamsters out there that won't accept nothing at all so the knew they need to say something that would pacify them... even something just as vague as that.

And you can bet that when the tentative agreement is finally shown... they will all be in unison once more when they start selling it to the membership.

IMO... the leadership has no respect for it's members today... that's why they treat us the way they do. As a matter of fact... they have very little respect and trust for most of the Stewards across the country.

They just forgot who they were working for when their head swelled up and now think it's their job to control us. Just human nature running it's course.

You guys are very correct on the signing boner as i call it, give me a nickel instead of that. In carhaul we got a 1,000 boner which you only see about 1/2 of. heck I can spend that at the casino in a night. And they did the same also wiih not letting any info out as to what was in the contract, must be the new playbook they have in DC smoke and mirror's. Good Luck Fella's

Thanks 00mustang... I have this feeling that we'll be needing it!

Look at me will you... retired for almost 4 years now and still saying we. It's true... when it comes to some people and things... you consider yourself in it to you die.

How about you Canary... you still feel that way?
Has always been WE not ME, they, the, them, etc etc , I just can't figure out when people say the UNION this or that don't realize that WE ARE THE UNION, the membership you me and everybody that has paid their dues retired or not. In fact it's engraved on my head stone PROUD TO BE A TEAMSTER

It's that way for me. I've been gone 2.5 years now, and I still have to watch the "we" and "you." I just...know the struggle. All too well.

It's funny that I don't feel that way about YRC, despite living a couple blocks from my old terminal now. I worked for YELLOW, though, and never YRC.

Yes.......I do. You spend 41 years in something, you don’t just shut it off..

Kind of like military service......spend a couple of years active, and then 42 years in the American Legion, or VFW.

You don’t walk away from something you believe in,..........even if the current people running it couldn’t spell “courage, honor, dignity”....even if you spotted them a “ c,r,h,n,d, and a g”.......

500 years from now,.....when they dig my grave up to despoil it for artifacts.........I’ll have my Teamsters card in my breast pocket....

Laminated,....of course......

Do not vote yes on any bonus you will Definitely will be taking it up the dark side if you do . They will tell you how good is but if you do not read the fine print Refer to the first sentence!!!!!!!

We have to remember to read the fine print and know our rights.

That's the problem.........Most people don't read......Even when it's something as vitally important as your employment contract.

How many non-Union guys ever bother to read the mandated "employee-at-will" statement in their company handbook? That would send chills up your spine,..especially if you're basing your families' future on your continued employment.

How many Union guys read......and UNDERSTAND ....the contract? Most guys let the steward and the B.A. interpret it for them.....a little bit at a time.....

Contract time comes,.......and the company cranks up the propaganda machine,.....in the hope that most guys will........"Vote with their Ears, instead of their Eyes"......

As they do in politics.........
