They can call all they want. I just don't answer until I'm stopped in a safe spot. I don't answer the company radio either. If they have a problem with that I would just tell them to contact safety. No big deal.

I will add that I drive a new Freightliner with Drivecam. I absolutely love this truck. Drivecam and all. Why drivers are so scared of them is beyond me. I have had some line drivers tell me they would quit before they drive one. They better get ready because they will be assigned soon.

The new freightliners, with their nanny cams, works for Train, but for me, not so much. Comparing the working conditions between city and Linehaul is apples and oranges. Train works during the day and drives how many miles, with frequent stops. Linehaul shuts the door and is expected to be several hundred miles away at a certain time, which you can't make, if you take frequent stops, and by the way, it's overnight.
    PistonRing83 on post #169.
It will escalate once they get cameras in more trucks. Eventually they will start writing up or firing drivers for every stupid thing they see on the babysitter camera.
    I've heard stories
of drivers and mechanics, who have been written up, for things that were observed and heard on the nanny cam, that validates PistonRings prediction. Granted, it was all second hand information but, you have been warned.

The company prohibits the use of all tobacco products in all owned, leased, and rented company vehicles, to include company cars, trucks, tractors, and forklifts

and they put out an email on the electronic cigs

It clearly states in vehicles .... But company property is the issue. I thought I made that clear. The post was more a response to Buck. I didn't see that anywhere the TM violated company policy.

You make some good points and so does PR83. After all he did work for Conway. All I'm saying is many drivers have told me they would quit before they get in one. Surely, Dracula your not one of those. You would walk away from a job that pays 100K a year? Doesn't seem like a smart move IMO.

It's just a matter of time before they assign the 17's to the line. The the 16's and 13's automatics will spend more time in the city. They didn't buy the 17's to just let them sit. It's truly amazing how so many line drivers prefer to drive the older Volvos (06) opposed to jumping in the newer units. My guess is they prefer to stay on the phone and eat and drink and perhaps smoke or dip without worrying about being watched. Just my guess of course. Personally I don't care because when I come in to run my P&D route I love having my choice of the 5 or 6 new units sitting on the yard with an A/C that will run your ass out even in the state of Texas. And the automatics that are heaven in rush hour traffic. Pure paradise.

I believe there was an addendum to the policy about smokeless tobacco and e-cigs that you electronically sign and accept when you log into the employee page a while back.

I believe you are correct. However my contention has always been what is allowed on company property. Could someone please address that. I COMPLETELY understand what is allowed in company vehicles.

Well my belief would be since the policy says smoking is only allowed in designated areas that would also apply to the use of smokeless tobacco and e-cigs.

Walk away, no, just delay as long as possible. Some drivers prefer to drive the new stuff. I prefer the older stuff. So far, we both have got our paradise.

I prefer the older stuff because it isn't full of the big brother tattle-tale bull :shit: that the new stuff is. That and I really don't like the automatics.

I have several things on the back burner at any given time, but won't walk away until I have a camera shoved in my face. Then its on to other things. I'm hoping that the idiots in managment get the message loud and clear from the drivers about the cameras, but like I've said before, I expect this place to be just like Con-Way in a few years. Hell I've only been here for two years and its gotten alarmingly worse just in that short amount of time.

I won't be babysat like a god-damned little kid. I'll go back to the trades or buy my own truck before I sit behind a camera again. I guess that's the benefit of being able to do other things besides just drive. Thank God I have options because a lot of drivers don't.

I really wish the rest of the complacent ninnys would wake up about this, too.

Saia should be careful about running drivers off with silly stuff like cameras. Already short on drivers, and if they keep bringing more and more rules and regs, that may be enough to push people over the edge. Remember, people don't quit jobs, they quit bosses.

The forward facing cameras are a good thing. The inside cameras do nothing but incriminate the driver and any driver that would defend them is pathetic. I'm already hearing from multiple drivers that are being hassled by management for drinking water or tuning the radio while driving. Following too closely is another thing they are bitching about. They expect you to keep a 6 second following distance at all times, even in rush hour Chicago traffic. Of course if any of these educated idiot safety managers had EVER driven a truck, they would know that's impossible. All three of the drivers I know with truck cams are already looking at other jobs. How much pushback will it take before the pinhead office idiots realize they screwed up?

Welcome to the red version of Con-Way, drivers. They can stick their nanny-cams up their :shit: holes.
