So what is everybody's comments and thoughts on these E.L.D.'s ? They seem to take about 1/2 hour or more daily trying to get them to work right and then there's the lunch time thing to ? :confusion:

Just take your time and remember until Dec 18 we are just practicing. Most of the guys catch on the first week. It`s not as intimidating as it looks, help each other out.

Outdated compared to other carriers systems. To many steps in the process that trips up the system. This should have been streamlined better.

The code is poorly written for these programs where they are running into conflicts when you are trying to log in and out and do the city operation manifest. This is where most of the problem exists. The interface is tripping on itself even though the techs don’t want to admit it.

When you have to log into the main computer, then your handheld, then city operation just to start you are creating a trail where it trips. Then all the other steps that the city already had that could have been streamlined, but was written in many cases as a three step process just to do a stop.

Lunch seems to be a problem as well signing in and out. The end of day process and it’s 5 step process seems to leave guys out of hours in the morning or not able to log in and out..

A simple code correction would go a long way to fix the many steps it takes currently... even a simple swipe in and out feature would work. In the day and age of mini computers in smartphones and all the tracking abilities that are available this system that we have is already behind in many ways.

For instance I drive Uber part time And with a simple swipe I am logged on and off, all tracking of hours, location, speed, braking (yes that is recorded) and much more is done through an app that is downloaded on a simple smartphone off the shelf.

Omnitrac has the same ability to streamline the process and make it more user friendly. It’s all in who is writing the code.

With the weekly and daily crashes that are occurring in the system someone needs to go back and review what exactly is going on with the interface.

Personally I think there are to many steps that need to be revised and streamlined. Even before the interface with the log’s the city operation on the handhelds had to many steps per stop for simple arrival and departure of a stop, and no way to go back and edit once information was imputed at a pickup or drop off.

For a basic system this one being used is far behind those being used by other companies. Have you spoken to other drivers and asked them if their systems have been crashing on a regular basis? I have and they haven’t; so overall it shows just how poor this system actually is.

How much revenue has been lost as a result of the system crashes? I know of one terminal alone that left over 45 pickups on the street on a Friday recently due to this. How many throughout the system were missed and as a customer how often and how much longer will you be tolerant to hearing sorry the system is down and then no one shows up to get your freight before you look elsewhere.

I have never had any problems other than it crashing. As far as helping others, NOPE. They brought in a team of useless paychecks to train the drivers how to do this. They did an absolutely horrible job at that. The :censored: we had was a pompous dick. They can bring them back on Decemeber 19 and unscrew what they screwed up.

Will your Uber app sync with ELD app?

If a driver takes a second job with a non-motor carrier, do those hours affect compliance with the hours-of-service rules?
Yes. Under 49 CFR §395.8(a), drivers must record their duty status for each 24 hour period, including all on-duty time. The definition of "on-duty time" in §395.2 includes "performing any compensated work for a person who is not a motor carrier." Therefore, all compensated work, whether for a motor carrier or not, must be included on the log as on-duty time and counted against the driver's available hours.

Costing company manhours. I’ve had to rethink the way I load city peddles. Costing us about 3 stops per man.

You guys are having that much trouble, it might add 5 to 10 minutes to your day? And they have updated some things to make it easier I know some things have been changed for the better they are getting bugs worked out.
If you do all steps right it is not a big deal.

Guys don't make this in to a big problem, if you drive here or some other company you are going to have to use ELD.
I know it is a learning curve for us but deal with it. I don't like it any more than next guy but if you continue to be a CMV driver it is the law. If you have issues find a driver at your terminal and ask for some one on one help. We have one at our barn that has helped several guys.
Remember we are professionals and can navigate a 65 foot vehicle in traffic every day, I think we can navigate a little new technology.

I'm like everyone else, I hate change. But this stuff isn't going to go away. It's today's new technology and we all have to evolve. I hated the E-Logs to begin with, but in no time, even I got used to it. It sounds like they dropped the ball on rolling it out and clearly they need to fix the system going down, but you might as well evolve and get used to it because it's not going away.

Never did say that we couldn’t get used to it and many have, the point about the system that Holland purchased not only could have been better for the money they spent, but also a little more streamlined. It comes back to code and those writing it.

Toby, no way with our new hires. It takes most 1 1/2 hours to get offers yard. Always something. 1 hour is minimum at our barn.

Sounds like they purchased a crappy system and did a poor job rolling it out to the drivers also.

As a steward most often said brother, “you get paid by the hour” so if it takes an extra hour to do it, take the hour to do so. No right turns on red, 5 under a gear low, now add in 5 steps to accomplish 1.

It amazes me that so many can't stand the well that they get there water from, but can't leave the herd to find a better well that satisfies them. So many people want to be part of the problem but not part of the solution.

If they put all wages and bennies back to full scale guys would still bitch that something isn't right.
    Ponder on that for awhile.

Discontent, blaming, complaining, self-pity cannot serve as a foundation for a good future, no matter how much effort you make
