That's working extra that's for sure, an option many companies don't allow, or it goes to the guys with seniority. Many that pay overtime cut their guys off or put them running linehaul to avoid paying OT. One thing that's important to note, I wasn't forced to work those hours, it was an option, I like having the option to work or take it easy.[/QUOTE]
You wouldn't have to work that many hours to make that much IF AE paid what other carriers paid.

See, that's the way it should be. At Southeastern the wild drivers and scheduled drivers get the same rate (60.8) but the wild drivers get the leftover runs and only average 2200 miles a week and are gone all week. I wish SEFL recognize this and pay the wild guys a little more.

Hey Iceman. I believe you might need to be under a concussion protocol. Let me start out by first saying "don't get me wrong". I believe Averitt is a great place to work and I love the culture.

You say you are the happiest you have ever been with your 29 years of service at Averitt, but being happy with your physical job function and being happy with your job is two different things. Have you ever once calculated your run using all of the other "real" LTL carriers pay scale ($.60 to $0.64 cpm) and thought the following two things? Wow, that sure would be an amazing raise and boy howdy, we sure are getting taken advantage of. By the way, other carriers make in four days what we make in five. And by Averitt giving us the new PTO package, has made it even more difficult for oneself to make a change. You or I would never see five or four weeks of PTO respectively over the remainder of our career if we made a change and that's hard to give up, along with seniority. Don't get me wrong, I have prayed for years for an extra weeks vacation and the option to use it as a sick day and I am extremely thankful we have received it.

AE city pay is $23.75. Just a friendly correction.

    SEFL- 2200 miles x .608 cpm = $1337.60
AE driver @ .53 cpm would have to run 2524 to make the same...

I understand the confusion my happiness can bring, but foremost my faith in God allows me to be content in all my situations. I started here straight out of high school making 150.00 a week at my previous job. So the money I make here is far more than I deserve for the amount of labor I do. For me to long to make what our competition makes is flat out the sin of coveting. If I wanted those wages I must apply at said company. Please understand and respect my convitions on this issue as I understand that not everyone believes the way I do. I have always said that life is too short and our career is too long to long for something we don't have and not appreciate the things we do have. It is true I love my terminal, our great and fair management, our fine equipment and running Shuttle. I have raised two sons and have put one through college and in process of doing the same same with my youngest, I live extremely comfortable and am blessed with more than enough income than I ever dreamed.

I understand and admire your faith and conviction in regards to your job. We'll just have to agree that we both have a different view on this subject.

Thank you for putting this all into its proper perspective as it's not all about chasing a dollar. However, if I find a great company that has a culture I can believe in that may pay a little better for doing the same job to provide better for my family, I have no problem jumping ship. But, I absolutely understand what you're saying and amire your loyalty. I just hope that AE appreciates it as much.

If you made 72k in the city...obviously you "want to work 12-14 hrs a day".

Once you have escaped the snare of Averitt, why on earth would you ever want to go back? I haven't looked back once. I like sleeping in myu own bed at night rather than running against a ticking clock, cut times, arrival times, white headlights, fog, rain, .....the list is endless.

And .82 cpm, for small package. Freight has a different scale.

I can't stomach working more for less. If the company can't pay, I can't drive.

Stay far far away from the Averitt sinking ship. I spent almost 20 years at that bottom feeder outfit and it never did anything but go downhill from when I started. They are SO desperate for drivers that they have resorted to advertising on nationwide talk shows.
Don't walk, RUN away from Averitt Express
