SAIA | Grayslake opens next month?

I hear they're having some issues with supervisors! Full on dick mode treating drivers and dock workers like 2nd class citizens.

Now is the time to get the Union in that facility as well! Illinois is a huge Union state!
Your correct , they just made too big an investment in that terminal to just walk away . Don't worry about the naysayers these are the same guys that run into the T/M's office to show him what they posted on T/B looking for points . Do what you have to . The union will get strong again with new members . Strength in numbers is whats needed as in any business. Con way, Fed X R&L, Saia, Estes, Dayton and a few more and the union will be back to what it was back in the day . The dues will more than pay for its self in benefits . Good Luck.

I've always thought the union would come back strong to. With companies cutting pay and benefits and just treating drivers like ::shit::. I think eventually the driver will get sick of it and stand up and fight back. But time will tell

It's because the teamsters are broke and desperate needing new members

The Teamsters are a business like Saia . When it get slow at Saia or there's a down turn in business doesn't Saia look for new business ? Same as the union . RTW states also is a drag on the teamsters because of the free loaders receiving union benefits that they didn't pay for but still extract union benefits . The free loaders are helping to drain the blood out of the union by not paying there fare share .

Pretty sure Saia gave us a raise last year. What are these pay cuts you speak of?

As a member of this terminal I would like to say that for starters the supervisor Mike is a complete jack wagon! He treats people like crap and gets with the terminal manager to feel even more powerful than what he should be. Rumor has it he got fired from Old Dominion in Milwaukee. Apparently the regional manager from Old Dominion walked him out then they escorted the guy off the property. They told him he was the worst employee Old Dominion ever hired! Our terminal is already in turmoil. If Conway wouldn't have had such problems I wouldn't have left. This place is just awful! Favoritism is all I see

If it's that awful then why don't you just leave. ABF and YRC are hiring. Do us a favor and leave. Your negative attitude is toxic. We don't need your kind. We want people that want to be here. You obviously don't.

Trust me sir, I know your pain. Mike was a dock lead at another midwest Saia terminal that I used to run through a lot as a system driver. He was there for 3-4 years and finally got run off by the drivers calling HR on him and the TM multiple times. He went to Old Dominion and lasted about 4-5 months before getting canned. I cannot fathom why on Earth Saia would have re-hired him. The regional HR manager had been trying to get rid of him for a LONG time the first time around.

The best thing you can do is complain to the TM, and if he does nothing, go over his head and call Jane in HR. His old terminal manager went to great lengths to cover for him, so be prepared for some BS but don't take it lying down. The only reason he lasted so long last time was because the drivers at that terminal wouldnt stand up to his crap. Finally got a few guys hired in there with a backbone and it wasnt long before he was gone. Guys like this are the primary reason drivers become disenfranchised and leave.

He isn't exaggerating about this guy in the slightest. I butted heads with him more than a few times and honestly wouldn't be bothered to wizz on the arsehole if he was on fire.

Sorry Train, but your world down south is nothing like the world up here. I know firsthand from running the system and seeing the difference with my own eyes. Burying your head in the sand and telling people to leave if they dont like it isn't going to accomplish anything. I know you aren't management but frankly with ridiculous remarks like that, you can't really blame people on here for thinking you are!

From what I've been told calling hr in this region is a complete disaster. So I won't bother! I heard he had some issues in Milwaukee while up there for a brief time till he transitioned to grayslake. I've already seen him make the female dispatcher in tears because he is so rude. He needs to be gone. Complaining to the TM is also useless! They're like peas and carrots! They feed off each other! Yrc management choices here in this terminal

The Teamsters never did me much good when I was looking for a job, but they are like many businesses, if they are not growing, they are dying.

I understand you have jerks here but they are everywhere and letting them run you off from a good job is only hurting yourself. Many on here are primadonnas and think they don't have to take any BS .. Sorry, I just refuse to be a job hopper. Guys like that always hang themselves and in time he will be no exception. When I'm disrespected I go to HR or get right in is face and give him what's he's giving. I don't cuss him unless he starts cussing. And if he starts it then off comes the gloves. At that point I find it never happens again, he just stays away from me. Many times I just ignore stupidity until there comes a time when it becomes out of hand. This ::shit:: goes on everywhere and I won't give them the satisfaction of running me off. My satisfaction comes from me running them off. I'm nice up until a point but when I reach the tipping point. I stand up for what I believe in. Most bullies run and hide when confronted. And I have no problem confronting any of them when I deem it necessary.

All due respect sir, but a direct confrontation amongst employees generally doesn't bear fruit. Best to leave that sort of thing to the higher ups. There are exceptions, of course, but I disagree with that method.

On another note, perhaps it would be best to document in detail, and then call the anonymous 800 phone number. It was my experience that the 800 number drew the most attention to the problem, and less to the person registering the complaint.

If this guy is the jerk you say, I don't see why Saia would hire him back either. Just be desperate for people with supervisory experience. God forbid they promote from within...but that's another argument for another day.

It's those exceptions I'm talking about. I won't be walked on. We live in America and it's my right to defend myself if I need to. I won't be talked down to. A condescending attitude with me only gets that right back. Of course that is a last resort after all other attempts have been made to resolve the issue. I always choose the path of least resistance. But if that's not possible I will defend myself. I won't be bullied. I have never had to get down on that level here. But if I did I would probably just state my case and walk away. I'm no ones doormat and never will be. If things became intolerable and no changes were made I would simply resign and move on to a company that has instilled a culture of respect from it's managers. No big deal. As I have said a thousand times on here. This is only my job it's not my life.

Unfortunately going to HR up here in the north doesn't do anything. We went to hr many times about are old TM and they NEVER did a thing. They would call him then he would confront you about why you went to hr and it sometimes made it worse. As a few have said and I've said it up here in the north is way different then down south. And more people want the Union in Saia then you think. Maybe not down there but up here there's alot

Old Dominion fired him and Saia was on the hook to pay him unemployment! So they took him back

And you have this from a reliable source? A billion dollar company is worried about being on the hook for one unemployment claim. That must be it. Surely you can think of something better than that.

He even from what I heard threaten to take a guy in a trailer and settle things instead of calling HR! I won't even mention the fact they hid that to! Picked up the rug and swept away under the rug!
