The U.S. posted a $146.8 billion budget deficit in May, the largest for the month since 2009, as revenue declined.

The budget gap rose 66 percent last month from a year earlier, the Treasury Department reported on Tuesday. Spending rose by 10.7 percent to $363.9 billion, compared with a 9.7 percent fall in receipts to $217.1 billion.

The government is facing increasing borrowing in the coming years partly due to tax cuts enacted this year and the strain on social and health spending from an aging population. For the first eight months of the fiscal year, the fiscal gap widened to $532.2 billion, up 23 percent from last year’s $432.9 billion deficit.

And it really makes no sense. I mean, when the economy is hot, the first thing you should do is pump more money into it in the form of tax cuts.

The only thing better is to fund those cuts with borrowed money.

    Oops....did that!!

    Trumponomics for you.

What? Nothing? C'mon the guy making 50k a year only has to pay a couple thousand more a year due to rising prices, that $200 tax cut more than makes up for it.....oh wait.....

Maybe these right wing lunatics will get their wish about the Mueller investigation. Trump will send the country off a clife, therefore cancelling it.

    the problem is obvious here
the govt spends too much money
it is not nor has it ever been a revenue problem, it is a spending problem
I was very unhappy when Trump signed the omnibus spending bill and I will take him at his word that he will never sign such a bill again
The simple fact that monthly you are setting records for revenue and still have to borrow prove it
it also proves that tax cuts work, why would you be getting record revenue if the economy were not expanding
Here is the solution, vote out everyone you can in congress in Nov.

    Yep.
The left likes to reflect back on Reagan's debt. What they refuse to talk about is the wasteful spending that took place at that time. Reagan had record income to the treasury, but the spending was still out of control, so the record income to the treasury wasn't enough to cover the wasteful spending.
They will use this same rhetoric to bash Trump, but again, if the spending isn't reigned in, the record income to the treasury still won't be enough to lower the debt.

“In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem."

Funny how all of a sudden people (mostly democrats) want to be fiscally responsible after the disaster of the past couple administrations!

Yep. After they sat silently while Obama doubled our national debt, they've suddenly gotten concerned about spending.
    Their hypocrisy is deafening.

When you have people like Chuckie and Nancy saying absolutely nothing as the debt is being doubled, then complain about every little expenditure now, most of which they wanted anyone to try and buy voters, its laughable and highly hypocritical, but hey I expect nothing less from the left

There only two ways to get out of this kind of debt.
    Inflation
Grow the gdp and grow revenues
    That’s it.

After witnessing the Obama investigations and Benghazi investigations I'm convinced our government has been giving it's self constant raises and spreading it around.
    No convictions No problem
    I've got mine !

Republicans have both houses of Congress and the Executive branch
Don't you think that if they wanted to stop the spending they could have made it happen?

What else can you possibly hope for having control of all of that!
It's not going to stay like it is, you had your chance and did nothing but cut tax's and run up the deficit.
