At the stroke of midnight last night I opened the door and stepped outside expecting a cold, clear, starry night but I found a warm, damp, misty, night instead. I listened for the factory whistles blowing at midnight like when all the factories were around when I was growing up but didn't hear them either. I was going to walk around the neighborhood and stop at all the neighbors' houses for good luck drinks and food (you had to have a drink and some food or else the people would feel insulted) but no one was doing that anymore either. What a bummer, nothing like the New Year's Eves of years past back when I was a kid in the later 1940's and 1950's.
Anyway, Happy New Year and let's hope 2022 ends the craziness of the past couple of years and we all stay healthy.
