The Sesame Street generation was one or two after mine, and even though I always liked Oscar the Grouch, well, Big Bird just never grabbed my fancy.

I have the same thought every Thanksgiving:
If the Pilgrims had only known they could have been eating those crabs and lobsters in the ocean so many of them wouldn't have starved to death.
I imagine they didn't have any butter, but still.

Yep.
If they had, then every year for Turkey Day we would be feasting upon the Shellfish of the Briny Deep, rather than hefting 25 pound birds in and out of the oven, and the debate over white meat or dark meat may never have begun.
But then again, we also may never had discovered the culinary delight of a turkey deep fried in peanut oil.
Mmmmm . . . . . . . . tasty!
