Holland | Holland idea to get Driver's to apply ?

Had 2 guys retire at the end of April. 2 quit, and one was fired. Not one hired to replace them. 3 or 4 more are leaving in the next 2 months and a couple are actively looking elsewhere. And its about to be vacation season when 16 drivers are off on any given day.
They might have to rent a lot for storage trailers that are loaded with undelivered freight. Clear the fence line.................
But whatever you do, don't raise the starting wages.

Straight truck scab drivers are taking over the Carolinas to prevent that from happening. They are delivering freight city guys don't wanna del.

Yes . heard that a lot of barns are doing this now ,as nobody will apply !!! also maybe they should just lay off the sales dept. as no need for them any more with no driver's to move the freight !!!

I've always said that the city drivers are the best sales people that company can have, but having disgruntled city drivers works in the opposite direction. And so many of these companies refuse to take care of their drivers, and are cutting back on their sales staff.

Akron City Steward filed a grievance over a year ago on giving away overflow freight to deliver on Big Dog Trucking out of Cleveland and we won. If your barn is still giving away freight then look in the mirror for the fault. Because YOU are the local. If you are too timid to file a grievance then don't complain when you loose the work for ever!

Ok , but when they can't hire nobody , because we are the lowest paid ,HOW are they going to move the freight ?? so one way or another Holland will lose the freight !! and with barns closing at midnight to 4am in morning it's not making service neither !!

Pay you over time to do it. It our work. Do not give it up!
They already are doing that , BUT on Fridays most Driver's are out of hours by noon to 4 pm , so with 60 hours in by then nobody left to drive , and with dock work guys are 65 -70 hours a week and plus most guys don't want to work 60 plus hours a week ??so it's NOT giving up work its because nobody has hours left to drive and nobody will apply and YRCW-Holland to cheap to raise wages to get guys to apply ! so bottom line is when they have no driver's or dock workers , the freight will just set !! YRCW-Holland is digging it's own grave with no help to move freight !!

You never give up work. Never Ever! It does not come back.
snark monkey I agree , But when the freight sets with no driver's to del it we still lose it ?? and also once you give -15% pay you never ever get that back neither !! So what is the answer on how to move the freight when nobody applies ??? We know the answer ,BUT upper management don't want to raise wages & vacation time & a matching 401-K to attract Driver's !!

You file anyway. You are protecting the jobs of Teamsters not yet hired. Any the first person to file gets to claim the money.

Ok , but over the past 9 months had 6 guys Quit & Retire and NOBODY applies , so short 6 driver's short so the freight sits in trap and missed pickups , so what is the answer to problem then ??

The answer is to file on the work. The Company needs to hire. If the Company wants to farm out the deliveries anyway then they pay the grievant a penalty.

Think of a grievance on farming out work as a way to get some of your 15% back. If the company would pay full scale then there would not be a shortage. So in a way, you are penalizing the Company for asking for 15%. If you don't want to file alone, then do a group grievance. Or have the Steward file. That is his job to watch the hours and require the company to create a new full time opening. Maybe there are some Road Drivers that want to come to the city and by not filing on the work, you are forcing them to stay on the road.

Snark , I agree , but main reason they can't hire nobody is Old Dom. Fed Ex , XPO , all pay more , and we even have been having guys Quit and go work for them , and you know YRCW will NOT ever raise the wages , so guess freight will just have to set in trap trailers ??

We do it now all the time . . .This week, a guy was on the phone jumping up and down about his deliver. (I was standing right next to the Appt. Clerk when she took the phone call.)

So dispatch brought a driver back, while I dug through a trap trailer for his shipment. (A small generator). Loaded it onto the driver and he took off. The Driver calls the Customer 1/2 hour before delivery and the guy says: "I'm not home now. I don't really need it that bad. Bring it tomorrow." True Story.

What he doesn't know is that tomorrow might be in June sometime.

For you guys that are willing to allow these straight truck, non company drivers to deliver your freight........you are out of your mind.
Do you EVER want to move up on the seniority list?
Are you happy being kicked around every day because you are on the bottom of the seniority list?

How the hell do you think you will ever move up on the seniority list if the company never hires any new drivers, and instead, just farms out the potential new employee's work to these non-company delivery drivers?

Wake up, either protect your work or enjoy your crappy spot on the seniority list.
