Fake hat and jacket. Doesn't look like the official uniform issue.
Not many people really pay attention to the details. They see brown and a ghetto looking UPS patch on a hat and they open their doors wide open.

Next time people should track their packages.

When UPS first bought out Overnite, the same customers I had on my city route.
Would tell me now that you are UPS, I don't have to help you unload,or load, they wanted me to put everything inside where they wanted it.

I'd say just because the company name has changed,I got pallets, the small parcel drivers can do what you want.
Theres extra charges to do what the small parcel does.
We are heavy freight,we have pallets & still need help to load & unload whatever the case.

It was really crazy that they just couldn't get that we just were being rebranded, that none of our service changed.

Now that I'm retired I don't miss anything about the P & D rat race.

However back on topic,I guess Dockworker could be right about somebody copying the uniform with brown clothing & ball cap.
Anyone could just cut out the brand,or print it out from the internet & glue it on.
The UPS uniform is so well known I think it would be easy to fake it.
I know now days robbers are becoming more clever when they steal stuff.

Odd they'd choose UPS. A quick search of ebay produces mass amounts of FEDEX uniform available but no UPS.

Maybe because UPS is easier to copy, then any of the FedEx stuff.
I see someone could purchase that kids costume, to cut the brand off & glue it onto any other garment, such as a brown shirt & ball cap.

When we were first rebranded from Overnite to UPS Freight,a lot of the customers started associating Freight as a part of Small Pack.
They just took us for granted,GRRRRR.
Oh well being retired,I don't have to put up with the grind anymore.

I remember, I would deliver to a wine company and they wanted me to breakdown pallet and bring through the store into back room, I would pull out the DR and write inside delivery and ask them to sign for all extra charges they wanted me to do. Next thing I know I am dropping skid out there front door.

Yup we old school Overnite drivers had to be turned into teachers to inform the customers they'd have to pay for extra services of the freight division.
The ones that really got me steamed were the home deliveries, which I'd call ahead to see if there was enough clearance to get under tree limbs,& utility wires on their street.I'd tell them I'm a UPS driver, well they heard the UPS okay, but ignored the Freight part.
I'd arrive at their street & sure enough couldn't safely get to their house with my 48 foot 13,6 high route trailer.
I had to call dispatch to have them call the customer, which usually blew their top saying why couldn't I make the delivery you said you were UPS.

So in those cases it came back to the terminal & was transferred to a local cartage company if it was to much to handle by hand.
However sometimes if it could be delivered with a hand cart walking down to their house if it was't to far where I parked, my dispatcher would tell me to go ahead & deliver it.GRRRR!!

Still do that. I am very persistent and make sure they understand tractor trailer combination. Luckily we mostly deliver our residentials using 12'8" 32 foot lift gates. I hated the ild way of no liftgate but a smaller trailer. Dispatch hated me when I would bring it back no way to unload.

If anyone is aware of their surroundings, they would automatically know this is the logo from yesteryear.
Our current logo is on our left side. Right side if you are facing a UPS driver.
If someone came to my house wearing that shirt they would be eating their teeth for lunch. I would first ask to see their I.D.
I hope people are not gullible.

As a side note: The current version uniform can be purchased from ebay as well. This is sad.

You & every other UPS worker knows the points you've pointed out Dockworker.
However John-Q-Public generally wouldn't pay attention to the differences.
When I showed up with my 48 foot UPS Freight trailer,& uniform, the average customer didn't recognize the Freight part.
    Only that I was UPS.

I agree that not everyone is aware of the details and just assume.
Even before I was with UPS I knew what their latest logo looked liked and how they evolved. I didn't have to work for them to know.

Like I said....people need to be more aware of their surroundings and not be gullible. That's how you get taken advantage of.
Track your packages, when in doubt ask for I.D through your door and look for a truck before you open your door.

Come on, Dock... Give the crooks some credit too. I would bet probably 75 percent of people, especially this time of year, would not question a guy dressed in one of your old uniforms, and driving a step van painted UPS brown, that they are legit. They are more concerned with their Amazon package....

This whole thread is about a victim and what you could do to not become one.

75 percent of people, especially John Q Public are not being proactive in their safety are gullible, especially around the holiday season. The opportunistic crook preys on people like that.
Bottom line is they need to track their packages and know what's coming. Amazon always provides tracking numbers and you would have a good idea what carrier to expect. UPS, FedEx, USPS etc. Curiosity killed the cat if they just open the door without tracking their items.
We have tracking technology that helps the customer know whats coming and when. Use it. It's the century of being even more vigilant. Don't be a victim.

I've have UPS and FedEx "Required signature" packages come to my door. I look out the window for their delivery truck, look at them and will ask for I.D. Amazon is doing their own deliveries and now uses their white vehicles, sometimes you cannot tell they are delivery drivers. I've tracked a package and know that I'm supposed to be getting it. I ask questions if they require a signature. Otherwise they leave it at the porch and I open the door when they leave.

As a delivery driver, residential customers who have never used freight for delivery, question me and ask for my I.D on occasion. They know they have a delivery coming but just want to make sure........Those are the ones who are proactive.

I heard on our local news that UPS & FedEx are providing drop off locations for customers to go there & get their deliveries at their convenance.
Because there have been a number of crooks following the trucks,& scooping up the parcels when the trucks drive away.
We've all heard what makes a thief is opportunity.
