Reddaway | How does Chicago decision effect the North Vote?

The company announced today that the Chicago holdouts will not be asked to vote on a pay cut. They will only vote on a 18 month pension reduction. The company also said; they will no longer attempt to reroute freight around Chicago, and rehire layed off drivers. Will this also be the deal for the Reddaway Northern holdouts? How can it be anything else? How do you ask the North to vote on a pay cut, if Chicago will not be asked to take a pay cut?

Is there any question as to why the company has not given a new offer since the last piece of garbage was voted down? They have been waiting to see what happens in Chicago. If they would have offered the NW folks something then Chi-town would have demanded better.

Isn't demanding better between votes considered going backwards (away from the middle), and considered bad faith bargaining?

No all bets are off once a proposal is turned down. The employer can go back to square one but so can the union. That almost never happens though.

While Local 705 has ratified an agreement that calls for a pension contribution freeze until 2011(retro active to the rest of the country). Local 710 dock HAS NOT. I am not sure what will become of the Local 710 holdouts. It is probably connected although I have NO proof, Pat F. has resigned as IBT VP Central Region. Good Luck our brothers in the Northwest.
