I never would believe if I sent Tyson Johnson 4 text messeges yesterday that he would respond back but he did with a phone call. He told me this past weekend he was bombarded with hundreds of calls from pissed off Rank and File members about all of the news about Welch and Pierson and did not have a clue on what was going on so Monday morning Tyson called Welch at the corporate headquarters and ask Welch if any of this news was true about receiving a new lucrative deal with the termination of their old contracts and Welch responded to Tyson that this was totally false. Him and Pierson would receive 24 months severance pay which was in their previous contract and would receive their shares of stock valued at 6.2 million and 4 million but would be working by a job performance basis with no guarantees.

While I had Tyson on the phone I asked him how would the retirees be affected by the pension cuts and he has been assured by Central States that there will be no cuts for at least a year to a year and a half and it will start with the orphans only and they may only see a 17-20 percent cut. Retirees from ABF and YRC will not be affected.

I just wanted to shed some light from what I found out from Tyson Johnsons phone call to me, a current retiree from YRC and goes to show if you put some pressure on the IBT that you may get some answers or maybe I was just lucky. God bless all of you and good luck.

A retiree from local 728

Wrongway, His Cell # is 214-934-3418 and I had luck by texting this number instead of calling it direct. Good luck man.

I am actually surprised with Tyson Johnsons response. He spoke with me for about 10 minutes Monday night and it was a pleasant conversation with no anger in his voice when I asked my questions and he told me he returns all of his calls.

Well if tyson said that then the Brothers and Sisters that paid into the funds through their companies will lose benefits that were paid for. So does that mean that when abf or yrc close and reopen as a new company we will all be ORPHANS?
If I read your post correctly tyson said all ORPHAN time will be reduced. Does that mean that any time a Brother or Sister had with a company that no longer is in business will have those years pension reduced. After all those will be ORPHANED YEARS!

Today ORPHANS who will be next to get their benefits cut. We need to stand and make a stand on how our funds will be handled. I for one am very concerned that we now call Brothers and Sisters ORPHANS! YOUR BROTHER ALWAYS!

Could this be a partial list of "orphans"? See below...

Freightmaster1, those are only the freight companies. What about Holly Farms and Hostess, and countless other private carriers that are gone?

A 17-20% cut for orphans only seems a lot less severe than I would have expected, many were expecting the PBGC to step in with a maximun of around $1200 a month, which would you prefer?

That's why I said "partial list". You're right these are just the freight companies. Remember that just one multiemployer pension plan, the Teamsters Central States Pension Fund has 1663 contributing employers. Many of the former contributing employers who went bankrupt and were in Teamster multiemployer pension plans could be from...
That could include a lot of "orphans"!

Brother Muler, You are correct sir. Orphans, should be treated as everyone else, we all worked for our benefits. Our pensions were fully funded under the rules that we needed to follow. Singling us ( I am an Orphan, as they call me. )out is just plain discrimination, pure and simple. The phone call E got, is just a case of TJ telling E what he wanted to hear, that YRC and ABF, will not be affected. I have a copy and most of you have one as well, from Central States signed, by Thomas Nyhan, That If you retired before April 8, 2008, which is the Fund's initial notice of the critical status, you will not be affected by the cuts. However now that the laws have changed this entire funds rules. I guess this paper is no good. Maybe adjustments need to be made, but they need to be equal across the board. So cutting only the Orphans, you are saying we are not entitled to our hard earned full pension. Time will tell what really happens, YOU CANNOT COVER THE SHORTFALL, BY ONLY CUTTING THE THROATS OF THE ORPHNS PENSIONS. I got a new copy of this letter every year since 2008.
YEA, it's me ESP, you can just get used to hearing my name, until we are all treated equal, as our code calls for.
