XPO | I have a question for the anti union guys at Conway

these ant-union people are either 1 to lazy to get facts or 2 do not have the educated abillity to research the laws.

I'm against the union because of their less than stellar track record. In the history of the universe, no other organization has been responsible for more trucking companies going out of business than the union. The union is a sinking ship. A runaway train , who's destination is the middle of nowhere. Even UPS was smart enough to bail out of their pension fund. Here is a list of some of the UNION trucking companies that have gone out of business in the last 20 years.

If I have a garden, and I want to rid my garden of weeds, I can't do it myself so I call a landscaping company. All my neighbors used the same landscaping company, and that company killed everything, all the gardens died. Why would I call that landscaping company to help me? Do you really think they won't make your garden die? I'll keep the weeds . Thanks anyway. Past behavior is a real good indicator of future behavior. The union is obsolete. Their practices would run Con-Way into the ground in less than 5 years. Why some of you can't see that is beyond me.

Don't worry Mary, you seem to have enough seniority to withstand the first round of lay-offs...

Can anyone name 5 union trucking companies aside from UPS, that are thriving and not hanging on by a thread? I can't even name 2.

I disagree. It wasn't the unions that solely made these companies go out of business but probably **** poor management and some inflexibilty from the Union! And now we are stuck with the same dumb-dumbs who managed these "union companies".

And why didn't you post how many non-union companies have gone out of business during the same time period? Let's be fair here.

Wow that's some list. So how was the union responsible for the closures? In the last 4 years over 2000 trucking companies have gone out of business. Do you know how many of them were union? ZERO. When a non union company goes out of business, its a shame. When a union company goes out of business, the union destroyed it. Its a shame you are so ignorant of how the union works and what it does. a shame. When a union company goes out of business, the union destroyed it. Its a shame you are so ignorant of how the union works and what it does.

Why not union? Unions cost me 2 jobs, one really good one and one crappy one. Look at CF, Preston and YRC. Unions = bankruptcy.

because i choose to work for a non union company that is why i came here and left there . you want it that bad.all every one says is they make that much more and they have all that then go there .this is the placed you say you don't want to be so leave .there is that the truth you want, because that is how i see it. and you seem to think it will happen over night . you are dead wrong. you want it over night then go there. go read there post and see how happy they really are. many of the people i know over there are not as happy as everyone seems to make the union. by time anything would happen no one would be working or will have lost most of everything .and then you wont to pay someone to tell you sorry that's the best we can do.and everyone talks about how at least they voted on there pay cut and so on .they accepted because they had no choice .wait yes they did they unemployment line. o yeah how can you want someone you blames you for the lost of job,and blame you that they have lest people to put money into there pension. and sues your company for millions so they settle .because all they want is money . but now they are here for you.

Preston was a victim of yellow management. CF had huge non-union management pension obligations as well as huge union obligations. And YRC, well That's a long story. They operated as separate companies after the merger with all that duplicitous management fat!

Thats exactly why I came to work here 16 years ago,,,, great benefits and pension plan...
Talk to some ups freight drivers,,, I have a good friend who works there and ups funds their pension plan separate from the teamsters (master freight agreement),,,, has a 401k,, and a contract,,, The purpose of the contract from what I can see is to stop the bs of take take take take, the company has been doing. And the favoritism that goes on and the screwing up from the FOS's constantly day in and day out. They say starting in October they are going to contribute into our 401K,,, wow thanks,, tell you what, give me the 4 grand and let me do with it what I want. Think about this,,, if our CEO makes a million dollar salary that means 400,000.00 will be contributed into his 401k,,must be nice not to have to take a pay cut, live high on the hog and just keep taking from us.

The company will love this post....

Another YRC employee disgruntled at the union...blaming them for the failures of Bill Z. and company.

This post is going to be viral...in Ann Arbor anyway!.

And as for sub-service, hands down - it's cheaper to run a sub-service carrier one way loaded than a Con-way DSR round trip going empty one way. It's a profitable decision, one that makes the company more money, which gives us a better chance of seeing a piece of that pie in the future. From a business perspective, it makes sense.

One thing everyone seems to be missing about the reduction (or abolishment) of sub-service is that there would be fewer empty miles because there would be more pass-through freight in the system! When you add more freight back onto our trailers, it has to move somehow. So instead of sending a guy back empty, there is a greater possibility of sending him back with 2 pass thru's that won't get broken at the SIC when you get back.

If anyone thinks a 3rd part corrupt organization is going to do better for you - then by all means, leave Con-way and apply at a union company. Just don't drag the rest of us down with you. Go fill out an application at YRC, ABF, or UPS Freight. I'm sure they'd love to have you.
I've tried, they're not hiring--probably because their drivers have it too good to leave!
