FedEx Freight | If you don't like your job, leave.

at our center, if the driver feels it is unsafe or bad delivery site, he calls in and they send another driver to help. Saftey is all they preach at our center. Sorry to hear about the bad ones.

Not sure about that new "giant" rule book, but there used to be a weight limit on what you had to move with a pallet jack, even on the dock.... You might look if it continues.

If it's unsafe to drive, I don't drive. If it's unsafe to make this delivery/pickup, then I come back with or without it. As a driver I make the final decision, not central and not city dispatch. However, I don't use this as a crutch for being lazy. This isn't poor customer service it's just common sense.

Fellas, over at National, Fed Ex National tracks and posts a weekly report on each driver. Hours, Miles, # of Deliveries, # of Pick-ups, Average Bill per hour, average size of suck up knee pads. Dispatchers page us shortly after we get our dispatch, wanting to know if we are still on the yard, and why. The guys from Fed Ex Command have shown up in the parking lot. They are timing us on getting out of the gate after recieving our dispatch. They really stick out in their vehicles They are going to make us faster? They only need to speak with the drivers. We could tell them how to knock 1/2 the time off of clearing the gate. No specialist needed

Well, that's about the time I hang up my spurs in the LTL world for good. Yeah, the pay and bennies are pretty good but I don't know if you could pay me any amount of money to have some bean-counter following me around watching my every move.

I'll go back over-the-road before I put up with that crap.

unfortunatly some people just do it because they think they would get fired

Follow me all you want , who cares .
Show me how you do it so much better.
Oh what is that , you don't have a CDL ?
and you are telling me how to get hooked
faster , why ????

Team Players

Yea most of them have a ''0'' on their jersey if ya know what I mean.

I can't stand someone constantly looking over my shoulder like a hawk watching every move I make on the job. Making comments. Writing stuff that I can't see on a clipboard. Ughhh...

I'd boot the dude out of the truck like Indiana Jones did in that minecar scene from Temple of Doom. Then I'd take the truck back to the yard and clean it out. Life's too short for that crap. Let's see if Bill from Accounting can bang-out 2.1 bills per hour in a single-screw with < 1k in the box when ole' man winter comes to town. Odds are he'd lay it over on a hairpin turn or put the greasy side up in the comedian. That's what happened during the UPS "Brownout" back in 97'.

TM showed up at a residential customer delivery yesterday with an "auditor". They said they had been following me to see how to improve my performance throughout the day.

So they stand there and watch -- but refuse to help.

284# GUN SAFE, NO liftgate. I asked both the customer and the FEdEx "observers" for help or it wouldn't be coming off my truck (I'm not getting hurt for just numbers). I was insulted by my TM in front of the customer and basically told if it didn't come off my truck, I'd have today off.

Well, I have 6 applications filled out with other companies ( NOT LTL or freight of any kind) this morning, I'm going to lunch with my wife in a little while and wait,
... the phone just rang, and I have an interview this afternoon.

Remember, your most important resonsibility is to your family. Come home safe everynight the same way you went to work in the morning.

Great post Daredevil, Good for you

leadership, let's talk about that, and how it affect's this company. First of all ( and I am speaking from my center) You can't operate day to day busness by telling LIES to everyone, your Drivers, your customers ETC.
Uper management here must be out playing golf or some such thing. They are not even close to being in touch with what goes on at these centers. They have no clue, and ya know what? they don't care. This kind of mis management can't go on forever.
Guess what. UPS did not just put thier name on the doors of Overnite's trucks. They are serious about what thay do. They dont engage in half *** management. They will take work from us. Wake up VP's. This company is not on autopilot!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are 100% right when you say they will take work from us.They will not try to run union companies out of business or they will be forced to pay even more into the teamsters retirement fund. They will come after our freight and take as much as they can get of it. Lets hope they take some of our management too!!

I for 1 can say, we have a big turnover in mgnt!~!!!!!! And when you say they are serious, they are!!!!! Soon ( and you heard it here first) there will be another purchase, Mark my words.

You people are kicking our rumps in the freight industry, and I wonder what type of a hell ride we will be on when they get operations in gear????

According to Mike E We will be starting a big push in 2007 ....

I am almost afraid.

This is the same type of attitude I take when I get into a truck everyday, Good for you!!!! I am sorry to hear what you went through too get to this stage, but good for you.... It is just this type of attitude that pushes no one into the trucking field... Or pushes them too representation. It is a sad state of affairs for everybody, But you do know there is a proffessional driver shortage.

You should call GO and talk to somebody down there in regards to this. Don't let a jerk like this run you off from a good job. Also you are correct in the statement that your responsibility is to your family and coming home safe every night. Call him in !!!
HR this is a live person @ GO.
800-874-4723 X2769

And the Alert Line is (New name for In Touch Line)
866-423-3339 this goes to Fed Ex Corp in Memphis and then is fwd to Harrison.

I totally agree Smoke. Youngster, don't let that idiot make your decision to stay here or leave. Believe me, he is a minority ! I worked the city almost 7 yrs, and everytime, they would plan ahead by calling the customer when it was big and heavy, to set something up. Like your gun safe, engine, etc... There were a few times my dispatcher told them (nicely) to come and get it, we can't unload it there. Try what Smoke said !!!!!!
