We have had several who quit and were hired back. Only to quit again when it got slow. Terminal by terminal basis.

I know two weeks ago Saia in Austin TX was needing 3 P&D drivers... I suspect in the next couple of weeks they will have a $5000 sign-on bonus if the cannot hire people.
( Eagleford Shale is starting to pick again).

I know about slow & layoffs. But in this time of trying to hire drivers, I would not let them leave. Offer to transfer them to another terminal & pay their expenses until it picks back up. Or anything to retain them. I bet more than half in this business who are laid off never come back to the same company or even the industry. Location might dictate how you treat or handle your help, but if they are hard to come by, & based on the number of trucks sitting in a companies yard with no driver to hold the steering wheel, I would find a way to hold on to them, for they are to hard to come by. von.

That's too logical. Management doesn't think like that. When it's slow, cut expenses.
