NEW YORK (AP) -- Mark Sanchez blew the second chance Rex Ryan gave him. Now, it's Greg McElroy's chance to be the New York Jets' starting quarterback.

And, Tim Tebow? Well, he was leapfrogged by the third-stringer, fueling speculation that the team has little confidence in him as a quarterback.

Ryan decided to bench Sanchez on Tuesday after the fourth-year quarterback had another miserable performance. Sanchez threw four interceptions Monday night and wasn't able to handle a low snap with the game on the line as the Jets (6-8) were eliminated from playoff contention with a 14-10 loss at Tennessee.

Things got worse after the game for Sanchez, who received a series of death threats on Twitter. League spokesman Greg Aiello said the NFL is aware of the threats and is working with the Jets to assist on the matter................

Anyone who WASTED there time watching last nights game new this was coming . I only wonder why Rex didn't pull him last night . The game ( if you could even call it that ) was a EMBARRASSMENT last night for the Jets .

OK... How will that help? The Jets defense has not been playing up to par,and that's Rex's baby.... The Jets problems start with Sanchez... You gotta create turnovers when you, yourself are turning the ball over...

That's the question I put to my son last night, "Who's going to watch this game"?

Rex deserves to be fired for this Sanchez debacle. He should have been benched a long time ago. Why would a coach wait until you are completely eliminated from the playoffs to make a change? How stupid. Sanchez has proven that he isn't up to the job, so why was Rex so loyal to him? I heard something this morning that COULD have something to do with it. ESPN reported that if the Jets keep Sanchez on the roster for next year, of course, they have to pay him the 8 million that he's owed. BUT, if they trade or cut him, it costs the team 17 million against their salary cap. This could be the reason for being so loyal to him, knowing that you are stuck with him for next year also.

And what the heck did they bother to get Tebow for........just for the attention and ticket sales?

Say good bye to Rex. The team has laid down. But their ownership needs a :nut_kick: also.

Yeah, 17 million for a QB you can't start or trade. What do you do with that ? Maybe cut him anyway and go after Mike Vick ? That would be another nightmare. Is there a happy ending to this ? Or do you clean house. Rebuild. Start McElroy. What the hell. It ain't gonna be any worse.

That Sanchez issue is a mess there in Jetsville. He (Sanchez) is not the problem totally but alot does fall onto him. The GM let once was a very good team into a lackluster one. The injuries to Reevis, them letting good running backs, receivers, OL players go hurt this team bad. Instead of building this team up it was being torn down. The defense was so good the last few years that it hid the flaws of Sanchez. Now the Defense is on the field so much they wear down by the fourth qtr.

UPDATE McElroy has concussion, Sanchez to start for Jets

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -- Rex Ryan stepped to the podium, looked out at the cameras and opened his news conference with a warning.

''You're not going to believe this one,'' the New York Jets coach declared without any hint of a smile.

In what has been a bizarre season, the Jets' wacky quarterback situation took yet another twist. Greg McElroy has a concussion - which he didn't reveal until Thursday - and will be replaced by Mark Sanchez as the starting quarterback in the season finale at Buffalo on Sunday.

''We've come to find out that Greg wasn't exactly truthful with our training staff after the game,'' said Ryan, who acknowledged he was ''stunned'' to hear the news. ''He never disclosed that he had symptoms after the game to our trainers. Right now, he's being evaluated for a concussion.''

McElroy, preparing to make his second NFL start in place of the benched Sanchez, was lifting weights Thursday morning and started experiencing headaches, Ryan said. McElroy went to the team's training staff and then revealed he was suffering concussion-like symptoms after being sacked 11 times in the Jets' 27-17 loss to San Diego last Sunday.....................

How could Tebow possibly be any worse than what the Jets have put on the field this season?

I really REALLY think that Rex has mad man love for Sanchez and that's that . After last weeks game when the QB was sacked 11 times from a pitiful San Diego defense I wouldn't want to be the QB this week even though there playing the Bills LOL .
