OK, we might be exaggerating a wee bit, but the excitement level can be pretty high if you spend Fat Tuesday bar-hopping in Hamtramck. Tuesday — otherwise known as Paczki Day — will have Hamtown bakeries pumping out the Polish high-calorie confection, a traditional way of celebrating before Lent begins.
Several local bars, halls and concert venues get into the spirit of things by pouring plenty of spirits to wash down these infamous sugary delights. Several bars will be open early, packed with paczki and specials, food, fun and live music.
