TUSTIN - A tanker truck filled with 13,300 gallons of gasoline crashed while northbound on U.S. 131 Friday, spilling fuel and forcing authorities to shut down a 10-mile stretch for most of the day.

A Great Lakes Petroleum tanker lies on its side after crashing on northbound U.S. 131 near mile marker 171. The crash occurred around 8:40 a.m. Friday.

The truck was in an odd position. It was northbound on 131 and after the crash it lay on its side, with the top facing north and the bottom facing south.

The front of the truck was 15 feet or so off the highway, partially hidden by a drop in ground elevation. It formed a sort of T with the highway's surface.
