ST. CLAIR- A construction company dump-truck driver became trapped in his vehicle Thursday afternoon after he ran into a utility pole in front of the St. Clair River Country Club.

The driver, who was freed shortly after 6 p.m., was heading north on North River Road (M-29) when the accident occurred.

The unidentified driver was unharmed but had to remain in the truck until Detroit Edison could shut the electricity to the power lines and safely remove the top half of the pole, which was hanging by wires above the truck, said Dan O'Barsky, area leader for the utility company's energy and distribution department.
