Passengers in four of the struck vehicles also were injured.

Cynthia Smith, 53, of Columbia was moderately injured in the accident and was listed in fair condition today at University Hospital. Deborah Casey, 54, of Leawood, Kan., suffered serious injuries and was taken to University Hospital. Her condition this morning was listed as serious.
