If you drove a truck for 53 years, YOU should know who busted up organized labor in trucking. Hint, it WASNT a republican.

The article made no mention of negotiating a better trade deal.. It did mention that Trumps idea of imposing "punishing tarrifs on foreign goods would trigger retaliation and ignite a trade war with disastrous results for employment and the standard of living in the United States."........

Carter signed trucking deregulation in 1980...and since then Deregulation has made it easier for nonunion carriers to get into the trucking industry. ....This new competition has sharply eroded the strength of the Teamsters Union.... By 1985 unionized workers were only 28 percent of the trucking work force, down from around 60 percent in the late seventies...... Now having said that... It was Reagan who terminated over 11,000 air traffic controllers and that move laid the groundwork for today's coporate assault on organizationed labor, Unions in general...... So yes....a Democrat, Carter, signed trucking deregulation....but it was a Republican, Reagan, that really took it to higher levels and since then, the anti-union sentiment has spread to the point of where Unions are today...... Union strength is greatly reduced from what it once was....and that decline can be traced back to Carter with signing deregulation....but to a much greater extent, to Reagan's firing of the air traffic controllers....

That is exactly what got the "ball rolling" against unions. I hope Ronald Reagan burns in hell for eternity! In my mind opinion, he started the decline of the middle class.

Unions, organized labor, is what built the middle class to what it was......and with the decline in Union strength we can see a corresponding decline in the middle class as well...... So a connection between his firing air traffic controllers and the hastening of the declining union power it started, coupled with his "trickle down" economics the case can be made that the decline of the middle class really took off under Reagan........
The sad truth of it is, the Democrats have done little to stop the decline of Unions and the middle class....... In a political system that has been hijacked by Corporate power and influence, the role of the Republicans and the Democrats have become essentially a "good cop, bad cop" relationship with the end game being one and the same...... They provide the deflection through the blame shift game while the real agenda marches ahead with little attention paid..... As long as we are easily distracted with this silliness of "it's all the liberals fault" or "it's all the conservatives fault" the problems will worsen...... Both parties have helped deliver us to where we are now.....courtesy of Corporate money and influence.....

Reagan was right. So was FDR.

    http://bloggingblue.com/2011/02/what-fdr-really-said-about-public-employee-unions/

Particularly, I want to emphasize my conviction that militant tactics have no place in the functions of any organization of Government employees. Upon employees in the Federal service rests the obligation to serve the whole people, whose interests and welfare require orderliness and continuity in the conduct of Government activities. This obligation is paramount. Since their own services have to do with the functioning of the Government, a strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to prevent or obstruct the operations of Government until their demands are satisfied. Such action, looking toward the paralysis of Government by those who have sworn to support it, is unthinkable and intolerable. It is, therefore, with a feeling of gratification that I have noted in the constitution of the National Federation of Federal Employees the provision that “under no circumstances shall this Federation engage in or support strikes against the United States Government.”

Other than education, there won't be any changes to any of the above. Just more of your political whining. And education needs a major overhaul.

Could just push the solar agenda and throw billions at companies like Solyndra, who are defunct and out of business. Not a single job left there. Billions of tax payer's money lost.

They will have to spend money rebuilding our military, that's a given, since Obama has depleted them.
And it's only the Republicans that are protecting the people's money right now by voting down wasteful spending bills. That's why there is gridlock in Washington, the Democrats won't cut down on the wasteful spending.

Drop the kook aid and slowly back away. You are drunk of foolish Democrat talking points. There hasn't been a single word said about these cuts that you sheeple claim are on the horizon.

Yep. Another prediction from another know it all political hack. Who cares what he thinks or predicts. Didn't Al Gore predict that we would all be frozen to death by now?

Not a single thing will change with either.

You are half right. It gets hit first, but also recovers first. When things pick up, the trucking has to pick up before anything else does.

Tell him to raise his wages to be competitive, otherwise he needs to stop whining about not having any drivers.
    Problem solved.....no charge.

I been around for awhile. all Republicans say the military is weak and they want to build it up.

Thats called spending tax payers money on arms, these are the folks who give to Republicans and are hand in hand with them.
Did you watch 60 minutes do a piece on our nukes. One sub carries 200 nuclear missiles on board each one way stronger then what was used in Hiroshima. Thats just one sub.

Of course you would love to have the military might we had in WW 2.
But you would not want to pay for it would you.

I wasn't making a statement of right or wrong....just a statement of how it is.....

If you agree wIth FDR in the matters that you quoted his words......then you should logically conclude that shutting down the Government as a way to get your demands meant is basically doing exactly the same thing.....except on a much broader scale.....

Shutting down the Government manifests "nothing less than an intent on their part to prevent or obstruct the operations of Government until their demands are satisfied"..... Sounds just like a "strike" except its deeper and broader implications and consequences....

There is a guy making urns that are tree planters. After they deposit you in there they put a tree seedling on top and bury the urn. It will be a forest instead of the typical cemetery.

Government shutdown isn't a strike, it's a process governed by laws.

You can call it whatever you wish.....however, the results are the same..... Either one "manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to prevent or obstruct the operations of Government until their demands are satisfied. Such action, looking toward the paralysis of Government by those who have sworn to support it, is unthinkable and intolerable"......

But I knew you'd somehow attempt to justify today's Republican tactic on their intent to prevent or obstruct the operations of Government, i.e. a shutdown, with the goal of paralysis of Government, until their demands are satisfied......while at same time claiming that FDR was right..........

You say it's a "process governed by laws" .... Show us the laws that says Politicians can shut down the Government if they can't get their way?.....
