Freight Train Hits 18-Wheeler In Queens
BY JEN CHUNG IN NEWS ON JUL 8, 2015 8:21 AM

A tractor-trailer caught fire—and was dragged 100-200 feet down the tracks—after being hit by a freight train in Queens early this morning. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt and the FDNY put the fire out.

The crash occurred in Maspeth, on Maspeth Avenue near Rust Street.According to WCBS 2, "The truck was apparently leaving a warehouse on Maspeth Avenue when it was somehow clipped by the train... The cab of the truck then burst into flames as it was dragged down the tracks for more than 200 feet."

The tractor trailer's 62-year-old driver jumped out before the fire. He was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The train, which was transporting trash, was reportedly going 10 mph.

    The NYPD is investigating.

THANKFULLY THE DRIVER HAD NO INJURIES

Safety guy told me the railroad is at fault everything from going over speed to signals not working.

I didn't ask. I asked how the driver was and he he said more shaken then anything and then said the railroad is clearly at fault he said the train was over the allowable speed for that crossing and they verified the signals were not working and the crossing was unmanned I geuss he was talking about the guy that puts flares down when signals are not working.
You line haul guys be careful if you have to go the back way at South Kearny I think there are two or three crossing there and I don't beleive they have signal arms.

There was a driver on the other side with dashcam showing the train was at fault and the gates never came down.

Never liked that crossing especially in a tractor trailer with that being a major commuter rail line for the LIRR running thru and Kamikaze Corner up the block.

There's a stop sign at the intersection before the tracks that is dangerous too, seems people just blow by that stop sign.

Yes the intersection I'm speaking of is after the diner before the tracks going to the terminal. If that makes sense?
